Sadly, as a child I missed out on the fun and frolics of that exciting decade, instead growing into my teens in the 1970's, a very different era indeed. Leaving school at 16 I worked in finance for two local authorities before joining the police service a few years later. Leaving school at 16 was not a personal choice, but I have since revisited academia and scratched the itch for higher learning.
As for my police career, whilst it ended before I would have liked (again not a choice thing) I had reached the rank of Detective Superintendent, and had enjoyed a challenging but fulfilling and varied career. I suppose I have always written for personal pleasure and as a pastime, but when someone discovered a dusty and long-hidden manuscript under some sheets in my linen chest they suggested (quite vehemently) that I should do something with it ... which of course can be taken two ways but I assure you the feedback was positive, at least that's how I interpreted it. The result was that I wrote an anthology of detective stories and when that was done I put the dusty manuscript to use by rewriting it and publishing it. Another itch scratched? Who knows? I like doing it, and as a retired person I might just carry on.
It's not my only interest. I follow soccer, still supporting my hometown team and I love music, especially that of The Beatles. I play drums and guitar, but to no great standard, which is fine because my audience is only me and occasionally long-suffering family members. I run for pleasure and exercise, and with the passing of years it errs greatly towards the latter.view less
