The son of Sir Paul Hasluck, a federal minister in the Menzies government and then the governor-general of Australia, Nicholas spent a considerable amount of his early years in Canberra, before studying law at the University of Western Australia and Oxford. After completing his studies, he worked briefly in Fleet Street before returning to Australia to work as a barrister. Later in his career he became a Supreme Court (WA) judge, and also became well known as a novelist, poet and short-story writer.view less
