I'm a 27 year-old husband/father-to-be who dabbles in community theater while also holding down two part time jobs. It certainly is a busy schedule, but it is all done to fuel my main passion and prospective career as a self-published author. I read when and where I can, and my reading tastes cover nearly everything, but focus primarily on the works of Stephen King, Michael Crichton, Douglas Adams, H.P. Lovecraft, and any of an ever-growing number of non-fiction memoirs and autobiographies by influential individuals in my life.
Professionally, my life feels like it's just starting. I graduated from high school in 2006 and promptly took a year off of school to do some soul searching and to learn who I really was. Fast forward to 2013, and I finally have completed my AA degree through the local community college, worked almost a decade in customer service and retail, acted on the stage in a handful of community theater productions, and done my share of freelance writing, independent game design, and explored other varying interests. Yet I was no closer to knowing exactly what I wanted out of a career, and it wasn't until I decided to revisit an old passion of mine that had sat dormant for too long; creative writing. Six months later, I had a brand new novel and I was ready to show it to the world, and felt more confident than ever that I was on the right path towards a satisfying and content future.
My work in the world of self-publishing has only just begun, but will be stretching into the future for as long as I can keep it up. My first self-published piece of fiction, Elephants in the Living Room, released on November 5th, 2013. Originally written in 2007 before it sat and collected dust for the next six years, it is a coming-of-age story that follows high school student David Marcus Paul. Throughout the story, David learns that the world is not quite so black and white as he originally expected, and even at the ripe age of 18 years old, he knows less about the future, his friends, and his family than he thought.
Cybersaurus - The Awakening is a cyberpunk science-fiction/action/mystery series set in the far future. As a software engineer for the successful and brilliant Dr. Harland Wolf, Regina Santos has lived the last three years of her life in a perpetual stand-still. With the conscious mind of her dead husband stored digitally and waiting for modern medicine to recreate his old body, Regina goes through her daily routine almost in a dream, waiting for the day she will be reunited with Stanley once more. Until the investors pull their funding from Harland Wolf's company, and come to claim all aspects of his failed ventures, including the hardware that currently houses Stanley's dormant mind. Desperate to quickly find an alternative 'body' for the immeasurable amount of data that is her husband's mind, she installs Stanley into the first thing she finds, without stopping to realize exactly what it is. Now, Stanley's mind is trapped inside the body of a 40-foot long cybernetically enhanced tyrannosaurus rex, presenting a whole new world of problems for Regina and Dr. Wolf. On the run from her former employer, the investors, and local national authorities, Regina must now find a way to keep her husband's new body under control, and figure out if there is any shred of Stanley Mason left inside this primeval predator!
My work in game design also falls into the realm of self-publishing. Since 2011 I have been creating, testing, developing and polishing an original tabletop role-playing game system. Called Round 10, the first edition of the Core Rules were published on RPGNow.com in December of 2012. The game system features easy-to-learn rules, fast-paced combat, and is easily adaptable and can be quickly customized to fit any genre, setting, or type of game you want to play.
I am continually creating stories and games, all of which I am excited to share with the world. Continue to check this site for more information on all of my endeavors. And as always, if you have any questions, comments, concerns or criticisms, feel free to contact me directly by emailing nicholaskory@gmail.com. I will respond to every message, and all feedback is greatly appreciated!view less
