She kept journals, wrote freelance articles for a suburban newspaper, and loves nothing better than to spend every ounce of her free time writing short stories. Guiao, a Goan from Mumbai, earned a business degree from India and is currently working as a banker in the United Arab Emirates. Anytime she sees a blank page or a blank screen, she loves to fill it up with words.
For years, she struggled with the question of whether or not to pursue a writing career, choosing to share her work only with family and friends. Eventually, she decided this was the story she wanted to write. “It really resonated with me,” she said. “I felt this story of a father taking care of his daughter and the entire neighborhood helping to raise her just felt like something I needed to write. I grew up in Mumbai, and I think the feeling of community there is strong.”view less
