T he Church is completely lay-led, with a Pastoral Affairs Committee overseeing the spiritual life of the church, and a Church Council that manages administration and external representation. The church holds a regular Sunday morning worship service, preceded by a one-hour bible study.
After years of using standard published bible study materials in our adult bible studies, we came to the view that much of the contents of those materials did not speak to the practical situations in our environment. Besides, the study chapters were too long to be adequately covered in a one-hour study. We then prayerfully set out to prepare our own study materials.
We had two key objectives that the materials should meet. First, they must lead to practical applications of bible principles to the lives of participants and to the environment. Secondly, each study material must be of the right length for a meaningful one-hour group study.
We started in October 2014 with materials culled from selected editions of Selwyn Hughes’ daily devotional Every Day With Jesus with the permission of the publishers CWR (Crusade for World Revival), United Kingdom. However, after a few months, we matured into developing full home-grown materials. These have been a tremendous blessing to VFC. We then thought we could make them available beyond VFC, in the form you now see. Each edition focuses on a theme, and is intended for studies for a quarter of the year.
While the materials are aimed at group bible studies, you should also find them helpful in your personal studies. Whichever way you use them, we pray that the Holy Spirit will enrich your life through them.
