After diverse studies in pre-med, he became a Respiratory Therapist in 1973. In the early 1980’s he earned a degree in Anthropology from the University of South Florida, Tampa, including advanced training towards a Master’s degree. During his anthropological training, there were two focal points of attraction that summoned him—religion and medical anthropology and his educational path continued to draw him to the empirical sciences, and social and behavioral studies.
In the early 1990’s, after many years working as a clinical Respiratory Therapist, he accepted the position of Director of Respiratory Care and Pulmonary Rehabilitation at the former Transitional Hospital Tampa, Florida. A few years passed and as he continued to excel in his new position, something much more important to him was missing—hands-on patient care and the need to offer them alternative choices. Enrique resigned from directorship to pursue metaphysical studies and alternative healing methods—such as, the effects of sound, Pranic healing, Auric healing, and various other forms of energy and spiritual work.
In 1996, he became an Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki Master and Karuna Reiki Master, and began teaching Reiki under the name, The Illuminators in St. Petersburg, Florida. He also offered classes on other alternative healing methods, and practiced spiritual counseling. As his studies continued, he earned certifications in Reflexology and Hypnotherapy. Enrique looks forward to teaching Reiki, once again, under the same name, The Illuminators. This time, he will be located in Clearwater, Florida, and classes will begin in 2018—class schedules will be announced.
After his near-death experience in 2001, he returned to the healthcare field as a clinical Respiratory Therapist and continues to practice until today—with an entirely different perspective. Since the beginning of his career in 1973, Enrique’s primary area of expertise continues to be taking care of the critically ill, and those who are dying.
