Born in Clay County in western North Carolina in 1886, Moss attended Hiawassee College in Georgia, worked as a school teacher, and then moved to Tennessee. He earned his LL.B law degree at Valparaiso University in Indiana in 1912. He lived in a number of western states, including Texas and New Mexico, before settling in Odessa, Texas, where he served as the town’s first attorney, as well as in private practice, before being sworn in as judge of the 70th Judicial District in West Texas in 1949. He published in autobiography, Rough and Tumble: An Autobiography of a West Texas Judge, in 1954. He died in Odessa, Texas in 1967 at the age of 81.view less
