Sabrina has an MA in Latin Americ...view moreSabrina Gledhill is a British Brazilianist. Raised in Puerto Rico, she lived in Brazil for nearly thirty years before returning to the UK in 2014. Sabrina has an MA in Latin American Studies from UCLA and a PhD in Ethnic and African Studies from the Universidade Federal da Bahia and is the author of several book chapters on the Afro-Brazilian black vindicationist Manuel Querino. She co-edited and co-authored the catalogue for the Axé Bahia: The Power of Art in an Afro-Brazilian Metropolis exhibition at the Fowler Museum at UCLA before publishing her first book, Travessias no Atlântico Negro, in 2018. She is also an award-winning translator, whose publications include Death is a Festival and Divining Slavery and Freedom: The Story of Domingos Sodré, an African Priest in Nineteenth Century Brazil, both by João José Reis, and The Story of Rufino: Slavery, Freedom and Islam in the Black Atlantic, by João José Reis, Flávio Gomes and Marcus J.M. Carvalho, awaiting publication by the Oxford University Press. ________________ A brasilianista inglesa Sabrina Gledhill foi criada em Porto Rico e passou quase 30 anos no Brasil, retornando à Inglaterra em 2014. Tem mestrado em Estudos Latino-Americanos da UCLA e doutorado em Estudos Étnicos e Africanos da Universidade Federal da Bahia. Contribuiu vários capítulos sobre Manuel Querino para coletâneas acadêmicas, mais recentemente, foi organizadora e autora do catálogo da exposição Axé Bahia: o poder da arte numa metrópole afro-brasileira, lançado em 2018 e, no mesmo ano, lançou seu primeiro livro, Travessias no Atlântico Negro: reflexões sobre Booker T. Washington e Manuel R. Querino.
