Growing up in Cardiff, South Wales, Walker’s father, James Walker, along with H. G. Wells and George Bernard Shaw, was a founding member of the Fabian Society, the radical “think tank” of the early 20th century.
Walker emigrated to South Africa in 1938 with wife Elfreda and son Peter, where he became a Literary and Music Editor of the Johannesburg Star.
He was the author of Kaffirs Are Lively: Being Some Backstage Impressions of the South African Democracy (1948), Sailor Malan: A Biography (1953), Kaffirs Are Livelier (1964), Zulu Royal Feather: A Novel Based on the Life of the Anglo-Zulu Chief J. R. Dunn (1961).
