She earned a BS in social work from Tuskegee University and an MSW from Florida State University. She is a member of Bethel Baptist Institutional Church and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She and her husband, Lafayette Williams Sr., have four children—Byron Sr., Lafayette Jr., Langston, and Joseph—and three grandchildren.
