Reared in a tiny fishing village on the coast of North Carolina, she spent most of her spare time, listening to the interesting stories of the fishermen, including her own family, and weaving much of it into poems and articles. Later on, many of them were published in local papers and magazines.
Virginia also wrote song lyrics and had many songs published and recorded…Several by a couple of big country music stars on Capitol Records. One of her songs, “A Lifetime Isn’t Long Enough” is still played and receives many favorable comments on computer sites. In the late 1950s Virginia won first prize in a national song contest and the great songwriter, Johnny Green wrote music for her lyric. She has also won many awards, including a cash prize from The Poetry Council of North Carolina. The judges called her poem COME QUICKLY, SLEEP “well wrought and moving”.
Later, after marrying, she began writing for many greeting card companies and has sold thousands of verses. Virginia was widowed two years ago and now makes her home with her niece in the place she lived before she moved with her husband to the beautiful mountains of Virginia. She is still writing and has recently sold several Christian verses to Leanin’ Tree, a well known greeting card company in Boulder, Colorado.view less
