Indeed, it was in his role as father that Van developed his interest in children's books. Often times, Van would read to his children at bedtime. Sometimes, Van would even create the stories that he would read to his children. Van's three children are now grown. However, as President of his local school board, Van continues to read to young children. In fact, HEROES grew out of Van's desire make certain that children are not only entertain but educated when he reads to them. HEROES, using colorful illustrations and Dr. Seuss-like prose, does just that. By delivering a powerful message regarding the importance of having heroes in our community, HEROES allows you and your child to look at your home, your community, and the world in a different way.view less
