Colonization is seen as a mutually beneficial process, in which "civilization” was brought to the natives who in return shared their land and cultures. The opposing historical camp views colonization as a form of genocide in which the native populations were passive victims overwhelmed by European military power.       I think this is absolutely vital reading for every person living on Turtle Island (the Americas). I think an imperative component of stopping the continuing process of colonization is knowing the true history of these lands, as recorded and experienced by the indigenous peoples who lived here time immemorial. This is a book I read and re-read, and recommend to everyone who is at all interested in any form of social justice or radical politics. A must read!
