Samantha has been having some strange dreams. Some involve a voice urging her to come home and in others she’s running on the beach as a wolf with a golden eagle flying along with her. It’s even more disturbing for her to discover Malcolm, living next door to her grandmother, immediately attracts her, yet he can speak to her telepathically and has a whole lot of abilities that are freaking her out; and he’s telling her she’s just like him.Danger comes in the form of the Caedo family that knows of the Amoveo and has made it their mission to wipe them off the face of the planet. They’ve been quiet for awhile now, but it soon becomes apparent that they’re watching Samantha. When it comes to the abilities of the shifters in this romance series, some of it seems familiar from other author’s writings on both vampires and shifters, and yet some of it is definitely unique. The unique abilities are a combination of interesting as well as somewhat over the top.The romance itself, while happening fast, works due to the telepathic abilities of the species and the need to be in each other’s head. And it’s not only words, but actions, that give it a feeling of warm intimacy even before we reach a sex scene. I like Samantha and her need for independence and privacy, as well as Malcolm who is willing to give her the privacy she needs, even though it’s difficult for him.

    Fast paced and entertaining

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Such a great adventure between real life people and the legendary shifters, Amoveo. Meet Malcolm and follow him as he searches for his mate, Samantha. Sam has had enough of the big city and returns home ,back to her grandmother's house. Malcolm lives next door and has been waiting for Samantha, she catches him watching her from the window. He needs to tell her she is also part Amoveo and his mate, but there is also danger, someone wants them dead. Come along and find out out what happens to them, you won't be disappointed.

Samantha is a struggling artist in the Big Apple, waiting for her lucky break. When Sam's thirtieth birthday arrives, she is consumed by the dreams of a man telling her to return to her childhood home. As she settles back into her grandmother's beach house, Malcom, her mysterious neighbor, introduces himself, sparking Sam's flame and ultimately revealing to her the truth of his nature. Passion and mystery dwell within the pages of Sara Taney Humphrey's "Unleashed," magically leading the reader through the rousing and paradox world of The Amoveo Legend. The story that transpires will unleash the animal within you. -Nely Cab, Author of Creatura

Samantha has had enough of New York. Enough of not selling her art and enough of not finding Mr. Right, so she moves back home. She has definitely noticed some changes. Like her sexy neighbor Malcolm.Malcolm tells her of the shape-shifting Amoveo clans and it seems unbelievable to her. That they really exists and she is one of them. An Amoveo hasn't been attacked or killed since Sam's parents. But with her return she's in much danger. The enemy has their sights set on both her and Malcolm.I'm a sucker for true mate stories and this one sucked me right in. Unleashed is a story of dreams and shape-shifters. Both Samantha and Malcolm were great characters to read about. Their romance was sweet and passionate. An enthralling story. One of the things I enjoyed was that the author didn't just stick with one animal. The Amoveo Clans shape-shifters are all different kinds of animals. Sure keeps things interesting. Ms. Humpreys has created a fantastic world, a unique one too. Her world will leave you wanting more.

Since starting my blog I have discovered so many authors and books that I know I would not have come across otherwise. Whether it is through publishers, fellow bloggers or just being online more, I have found new genres and books that I have come to love. My favorite among these is paranormal romance. This genre continues to surprise me with all the different facets and has consumed my bookshelf. While Unleashed is a paranormal romance, it is not the typical format I have come to expect from this genre. Most paranormal romance books have the same basic makeup. They have a paranormal element, the main focus is usually just one couple that switches in each book in the series, there is villain looming in the distance that runs constant throughout the series and the male protagonists is usually an alpha male type. The alpha males are typically rough around the edges and can be crass, but in Unleashed, Malcolm should be categorized as a gentleman. He is still very much a take charge kind of guy and does not take orders easily, but he is more refined. I actually don’t think he cursed once in the book, which is not a negative; I am just so used to alphas being so domineering, it took me a little while to get used to Malcolm. The flip side to that is how incredibly patient and amazing Malcolm was with Samantha. In his culture, once you find your mate both parties accept the mating right away without issues. But Samantha has grown up thinking she was a human her entire life, so she does not accept the idea of having a mate easily. Poor Malcolm has been losing his powers and his mind looking for Samantha and if she rejects him, he will eventually die a slow painful death. Even with his life at stake, he never pushes her to choose him or live in his world. He goes slow with her, introducing her to his world a little chunk at a time and begins to gain her trust. I appreciated Sara showing us a different side to an alpha male and grew to love Malcolm and his compassion for Samantha. Their love does have a slow build to it, but their obvious passion for each other burned white hot. While I did enjoy a new take on shifters and learning about a new culture, I wished that Sara had given us a little more detail about how this species came to be and what life in their world is like. There were moments in the book where Malcolm talked to Samantha about their culture, but there was no dialogue, so we as the reader did not get to hear all the details. I love learning about new mythology and I really missed that in this book. This is the first book in this series though, so hopefully as it progresses we will get more insight into how this group of shifters lives and where and how they originated. There were a couple of pages in the book where we get into the mind of the villain briefly, which I always find interesting. I had a couple of ideas about who the bad guy was, but Sara did pull out a few of surprises towards the end. I obviously cannot reveal the identity of the villains, but I know this revelation will rock the Amoveo world and will have repercussions in future books.I have to mention Samantha’s friend Kerry. We don’t see her until later in the book, but I fell in love with her instantly. She has a sarcastic sense of humor and a realistic outlook on life that I appreciated. I am excited that she is going to be the focus for the next book along with, Dante who we get to see briefly when he is helping protect Samantha. I always like getting a preview of future couples so I have some idea of where the overall story is going to go next. It also helps us to get to know the characters better and how they fit into this world. I already love Kerry, so I am sure I will enjoy reading about how she gets involved in the Amoveo world in the future.Overall, I think this is a great start to a new interesting series. It was a good solid read, but I was not blown away by it. I wished we learned more about the mythology and had some of the characters developed just a little more. However, I had a smile on my face when I finished the book. The overall romance was just so sweet and I really enjoyed Samantha and Malcolm’s courtship. Samantha was so precious to Malcolm and he handled her with extreme care at every turn, even when she was fighting him. I am very interested to see where Sara is going to take this story next when the next book, Untouched, is released next year.

Predictable and unoriginal but a cute read nonetheless.

Shapeshifting clans with special abilities, fated mates and racist enemies have all been done before and Humphreys doesn’t add anything new to the mix. In fact, she seems to throw it all together into one big cauldron just to cover all her bases.

This is particularly evident in the world building. The Amovea are interesting and have potential but not enough information is provided concerning their origins, culture and norms. Moreover, they have too many abilities – telepathy, teleportation, pyrokinesis, shapeshifting – all in one character is truly excessive and leaves no room for unique characterization or development.

Malcolm and Sam have adequate chemistry but their romance is uninspired. Malcolm has an almost gothic sophistication but never manages to completely pull it off perhaps because he more beta than alpha in comparison to the almost larger than life Prince of the Amoveo. Although Sam is wary of Malcolm and the new life that he represents, she is too accepting of the drastic changes that occur relatively quickly. Nevertheless, she is strong and independent and handles Malcom’s overbearing and possessive tendencies very well even though this ultimately gets her into trouble.

The suspense plot is also weak. To begin with there are too many villains and none are particularly scary or chilling. The ex-boyfriend stalker is more smarmy than creepy, the Cadeo hunter is slightly better in this area but ultimately comes across as spineless and weak-willed, and the silent partner is so obvious at one point that the “revelation” at the end is completely superfluous.

The secondary characters are decent particularly the grandmother and the butler. However, they remind me of the identical characters in Elizabeth Hunter’s A Hidden Fire but without the personality and wit. The other Amoveo members are, however, interesting enough for me to continue with the series.

Sara Humphreys has taken a fresh approach to shapeshifter paranormal romance in UNLEASHED. Her world of the Amoveo race is unique. There are ten Amoveo clans of shapeshifters, including wolves, bears, foxes and eagles. Not only do they shapeshift from human to animal, they have other special abilities like telepathy. The Amoveo live unnoticed among humans, except for one group called the Caedo. The Caedo are their ancient enemies set to destroy them all.

The author did a wonderful job introducing the reader to the Amoveo world with Malcolm and Samantha's story. Malcolm knows that among his kind, he is predestined to have one mate. If he does not find her, he will never have offspring, and he will die young. He knows that Sam is his mate, yet she has no idea that she is a hybrid, half Amoveo wolf, half human. He visits Sam in her dreams, hoping to open her mind to his world.

UNLEASHED started a bit slow, but really picked up about half-way though. Sam and Malcolm were likable characters that I could easily connect with. Malcolm wasn't overly "alpha" in his behavior, which I think is what Sam needed to accept the situation. In addition to the romance between Malcolm and Sam, there is a mystery too. Someone is trying to kill Sam, and it's up to Malcolm to keep his mate safe. I enjoyed trying to figure out who was out to get her. It was not who I expected at all!

UNLEASHED is a solid start to a new and original PNR series. With ten different Amoveo clans, there is great potential for this series to really take off. I give UNLEASHED 3.75 out of 5 stars!

I received my copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This is my first time reading this author. When I saw Unleashed on Audible, I had to pick it up. I have been wanting to read this series for quite some time now. Unleashed is the first installment in the "Amoveo Legend" series. The series is based on a group of paranormal beings, who can shift into a variety of ten different animal forms. I really like that basic for a shifter romance, instead of just one group of the same animal form. This author definitely turns paranormal up a notch. The story begins with Samantha getting reading the leave the big city "New York" and head back to her grandmothers on the coast in a quaint little town, where she grew up. Samantha is a artist, but her luck hasn't been the greatest in the big city. There is a undeniable urge to return to her roots. Samantha never knew her parents and were raised by her grandparents. After she returns home, she meets a breathtaking gorgeous man who for some odd reason, desires her. Samantha, having bad luck with men, just wants to take things slow. But her feelings for Malcolm, are stronger than she has ever experienced. Malcolm has known that Samantha is his mate, and can't wait to complete the bond. But he also knows that their enemy, is hunting her, and he must protect her at all cost. With their race dying, they need to replenish their numbers. Samantha is living proof that the Amoveo can mate with humans, as she is half Amoveo (a wolf), and human. As the danger draws near, only the powerful bond that exists between Malcolm and Samantha will be enough to save their lives.Unleashed was a powerfully written paranormal romance that swept me away completely. I can't express how much I adored this book. I wasn't sure what to expect when I first started listening to this audio book, but I have to say it was way too short to satisfy me. Unleashed only lasted 8 hours, and the time went by way too quickly as I read it. I really loved the way the book turned out. I will warn you it will shock you in the end who is actually behind everything, I know I almost passed out while walking in the snow listening to this. The story begins with hearing a bit of background on Samantha, who has no clue that she is half Amoveo and can turn into a wolf. The moment her mate Malcolm reaches out to her, in dreams at first, is when she first starts noticing small signs that something is different. The first meeting between Malcolm and Samantha is classic, sweet and a bit funny and loved every moment of it. The chemistry between this couple is instantaneous, even though Samantha denies what she feels for Malcolm in the beginning. Then Malcolm does the impossible and takes his mate out on a date. For his kind you just claim your mate and live together right? Well Malcolm is going to have to be more delicate with Samantha and actually court her. Malcolm does quite a tremendable job in courting Samantha, and their relationship escalates pretty quickly. This story is probably covered in less than a week, so them falling in love happens quickly but the story never feels rushed, or too slow, it feels just RIGHT!!The Characters in this story were fantastic and I loved every aspect that they presented. The Main characters Malcolm and Samantha, were so much fun to get to know. There was such a sense of drama at times, but I felt that only added more flair to the story. Malcolm is your typical alpha male, domineering at times, super over protective, and sensual. Samantha was a very unique heroine. I grew to love her pretty quickly, although I think she was over the top when she finds out that she and Malcolm are mates and goes into serious denial. But once she accepts everything, I found her likable and endearing. The side characters were fascinating and I loved how interactive their parts played in the story. The Grandmothers was fun and witty and who couldn't love her? The friends of Malcolm were delicious and I can hardly wait to read their stories.Unleashed is a sensational paranormal romance. A story filled with tender loving, intense danger and mystery, and some serious paranormal kick that is bound to keep you on the edge!! MAGNIFICENT!!! Worth every penny!!Favorite Quote
