About this ebook
The sequel to Judith Ryan Hendricks' absorbing debut novel, Bread Alone
Having found her calling, Wynter Morrison is blissful about her new career in Seattle as a baker -- cherishing the long days spent making bread and the comforting rhythms of the Queen Street Bakery. Still, she struggles with the legacy of her failed marriage and with her new boyfriend Mac's reluctance to share his mysterious past. When Mac abruptly leaves Seattle, Wyn again feels abandoned and betrayed, at least until intimate letters arrive in which Mac at last reveals his deepest secrets. But the more she learns about her absent lover, the more Wyn discovers about herself -- and when tragedy threatens, she will have to decide if there is a place for Mac in this new life she has made.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book was a completely random pickup. I was at Powell's with some friends and we each had given ourselves $30 and 45 minutes to find books. While waiting for them to come back I was checking out the sales books and one caught my eye. The Baker's Apprentice was not at all what I was expecting it to be. I also did not realize until the very end that this was a sequel to another book so now I feel that I need to go and get the first book! The book centers around Wyn Morrison, a baker of bread and the relationships with people around her, such as Mac, her lover that disappears. Another character, Tyler, is a young woman who looks up to Wyn as a mother figure. The book has yet again inspired me to want to start baking and cooking more. But on a positive note, the book has given me hope that there is more yet to come!

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5After reading Ms. Hendricks first novel, BREAD ALONE, I was prepared for an evening of fun reading. But I was disappointed in this novel, and sadly, was able to do what I do when the book doesn't hold me..I skip a lot. I was able to scan this book, rather than sit and get comfortable, diving into the plot because the style of this novel was not my kind of style. Going from Wyn's account of her life in the bakery and to Mac's account of his life, and his attempts to become more open with his feelings, left me not caring about either. Wny's attempts in the first novel to get her divorce over with so that she can move on, continues to be a part of the plot; she is left with little money to live on as the divorce proceedings drag on, and the bakery finally falls into a new owner's hands, so Wyn must make some choices for her future. Mac, his usual self, runs away to escape his feelings and to shirk a responsibility to a relationship, and we get to read his letters to Wyn and her reactions. None of this was enough to keep me wondering, rooting for or even caring what was going on in his life. Wyns' lifewas the usual plot of a good romance: am I in love? Do I wait for him? What do I do with my life? Nothing new and exciting, but good reading if you just want to read more about bread baking and running a bakery, and female relationships. All are covered quite well in Ms. Hendricks latest novel.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Made me want to make bread! Nice story.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love the way she writes but I desperately want the third book in this series, which she hasn't written (finished?) yet. I love the characters and want to know what happens to them NEXT!!!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5quite good. Wyn is divorcing and moves to Seattle to work as a baker. Meets Mac who won't commit and Tyler, the blue haired apprentice. Likeable story and characters.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I actually liked this one better than Bread Alone, its predecessor - though I may be the only one who feels that way. This book had better pacing - I whipped through it in a day (and I have a baby!) My only complaint was that a relationship which seemed bad to me worked out in the end.
