About this ebook

"You will only make this journey once.  What kind of journey will it be?"

The Christian Life is a marathon, not a sprint.  Finishing strong requires a commitment to a journey that continues throughout our lives.  How we handle the stresses of the journey is important, but evenmore vital is how we finish the journey-and the spirtiual impact our journey has on these around us. How can Christians become spirirtually stronger with each passing decade?  The significant events in life's journey offer the chance to make an impact in the lives of those you love and throughout the wolrd.  Leaving a Legacy explains how to let God lead you and others on the journey home. The Journey Study Series is based on Billy Graham's best-selling book The Journey, the culmination of a lifetime of spiritual insight and ministry experience.  Each chapter explores the joys, triumphs, and conflicts we all encounter on our journey through life.

Author

Billy Graham

Billy Graham (1918–2018), world-renowned preacher, evangelist, and author, delivered the Gospel message to more people face-to-face than anyone in history and ministered on every continent of the world in almost 200 countries and territories. His ministry extended far beyond stadiums and arenas, utilizing radio, television, film, print media, wireless communications, and thirty-three books, all that still carry the Good News of God's redemptive love for mankind. Engraved on a simple fieldstone in the Memorial Prayer Garden where he is buried at the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, North Carolina, these words exemplify how the man and the minister wished to be remembered: "Preacher of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ."

    The Family

TO GET THE MOST FROM THIS STUDY GUIDE, READ pages 267–276 of The Journey.

Parenting is the most important responsibility most of us will ever face, and none of us does it perfectly.

    The Journey

    THINK ABOUT IT

Other things may change us, but we start and end with family.

    —ANTHONY BRANDT¹

Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him.

    —PSALM 127:3

The family, as we have traditionally defined it, is under attack. Many well-meaning adults are so focused on their jobs and other interests that their families get virtually no attention. Children are left to raise themselves. Parents expect the school system to discipline their children while they attend to their own personal needs and desires.

Other parents take seriously their parental responsibilities. They juggle complex schedules and demands, all in an attempt to live up to God’s expectations. They know that their family’s future is dependent upon their parental effectiveness. They know parenting is hard, but they know they have no other choice.

    REWIND

Briefly describe the hopes and dreams you have for the future generations of your family (your children or other younger relatives, if you have no children).

    [Your Response Here]

How much time do you spend each day in direct interaction with other family members?

    ____ Less than 10 minutes

    ____ 10 to 30 minutes

    ____ 30 minutes to 1 hour

    ____ More than 1 hour

What are the three daily responsibilities that take up the largest portion of your available time?

    1. [Your Response Here]

    2. [Your Response Here]

    3. [Your Response Here]

Children are a gift from God; they are not our personal property. Eventually, our children marry and have children of their own. Children become parents who raise children. Therefore, how you interact with your children today will affect them and future generations.
