    Posted by: Kelsey

Well, I’m confused because the Bible says I’m supposed to be loving my enemies. Does this mean I’m supposed to love Satan? It’s really been bothering me. Please help.

    Dear Kelsey,

The answer is no, we are not to love Satan. Satan is the enemy of God. He is more than a foe to us; he is evil itself and as children of light we cannot love darkness or have any part in it. Since there is nothing good at all in Satan, there is nothing in him that we can love. Humans, on the other hand, are made in the likeness of God and therefore we are to love them, even if it seems impossible.

Generally we have enemies because of sinfulness, covetousness, anger, envy, greed, pride—things like that. As believers our best defense against sin is love. Love doesn’t practice sinfulness, so if we wish to combat sin, we have to love others. To hate them, to envy them, or to wish them harm is directly opposed to love.

    Subj: Catholic Bible

    Posted by: curious

I found my grandmother’s Catholic Bible the other day. I know that there are added books, but I thought it would be interesting to read them. I know they aren’t God’s inspired Word, so can I read them?

    Dear Curious,

Catholics believe that these added books are the inspired Word of God. Protestants believe that they are only writings from the same time period, but not the Word of God. If you are a Protestant and you read these books, you need to look at them as any other book you might read, but not as Scripture. You will find many things in them that don’t agree with what you believe, so be ready to get answers.

Go into it with the thought that it will be interesting, but not inspired.

If your parents are Protestants, you might want to talk it over with them before you do anything.

I did not speak in secret or hide my words in some dark place . . . I am the Lord, and I speak the truth; I say what is right (Is. 45:19).
