About this ebook

Carly spends her days at a spa (okay, so she owns the place), she’s dating a hunk, and she’s surrounded by chocolate. She’s living the dream . . . or is she?

The last few years have been tough, but now Carly Westlake’s life seems picture perfect. Business at her spa is up thanks to her famous chocolate facials. And Jake Mitchell—her dreamy, teenage crush—has moved back to Spring Creek, Vermont, with his daughter in tow. Carly’s nearly floored to learn that Jake has his sights set on winning her heart.

But when long-buried secrets threaten her business—and her friendship with her best friend and business-partner, Scott—Carly has to fight like crazy to keep her plans afloat. Can it be that her dream of marrying Jake Mitchell isn’t the plan God has for her life? What if God’s plan requires something totally unexpected . . . a bittersweet surrender that Carly must make before she can discover true love?

Bittersweet Surrender (2008) is a very nice story about Carry Westlake, for whom the last couple of years been kind of rough. First she survives breast cancer, but loses her husband who can’t handle the mastectomie. Then she loses her best friend Ivy due to a car crash and her brother CJ has debts because of a gambling problem. And to top it off, despite of plenty customers, her Mocha Day Spa doesn’t seem to pay off quite the money you would expect. And she needs the money so she can afford a reconstructive breast surgery. Luckily Scott, Ivy’s husband, is an accountant and willing to help her out with her bookkeeping. Also on the bright side, Jack, an old friend from high school from her brother, is coming home. Carry has been corresponding with him for some time now and hopes he will be her new love. But, will she be able to connect with his daughter Katelyn? This novel has a lot of storylines, all ending up at one point. Most facts happened in the past. It makes it very confusing in the beginning, but all characters are connected to each other in one way or another and how they are connected is not immediately clear. Gradually you understand and suspect a lot. That makes the story very nice to read. It is certainly not obvious. I enjoyed it a lot.
