David Jeremiah, host of the syndicated radio program "Turning Point" that reaches millions now encourages readers to focus on the things that really matter - family, faith, and fellowship.

Anyone who is overwhelmed, perplexed or anxious about the past, present or future will renew their hope for living through this small, yet powerful work.

FIRST OF ALL, at the center of my life is my wonderful Savior, who gives me life, energy, and motivation, whose written Word fills my mind and heart with thoughts that I cannot keep to myself.

My wife, Donna, knows my passion to communicate the Word of God, and during the long hours in which a book is being created, she not only under-stands, she cheers me on. This has been her consistent practice for the many years of our marriage. How blessed I am!

Our team at Shadow Mountain Community Church and at the Turning Point Ministries has also encouraged me. Glenda Parker, my administrative assistant at the church, served me in this capacity for many years and handled the myriads of details that could clutter up my mind and keep me from the uninterrupted periods of study that are the making of messages and books.

Carrie Mayer serves in a similar capacity at Turning Point. She keeps things organized in my office there, and her giftedness with the computer saves me hours of time both in preparation of the manuscript and coordination of its publication.

Sealy Yates, my personal friend and literary agent, wonderfully represents me to our publishers and faithfully represents them to me as well.

Finally I want to express my appreciation to the people at W Publishing Group for their continued confidence and trust. Thank you for praying for me and for working so hard to make The Things That Matter a project that will bring honor and glory to our Lord!

    Introduction

SO MANY VOICES! We hear so many voices pro-claiming what the future will bring. So many arguments. So many speculations. Everyone has a theory, an idea. And I’m not just talking about CNN, radio and TV talk shows, books and magazines, hundreds of websites, and USA Today. The voices predict everything from the greatest of manmade utopias to the worst apocalyptic nightmare.

Everyone, it seems, has a slant on what’s to come and what we should be doing until it does. So how do you sort through all of this? How do you decide what to believe about the future? How do you identify the things that really matter?

I’d like to suggest there is one slant we ought
