About this ebook

The first book in the Wereling series! A teenage boy's ordinary life and wrenched apart when he discovers that he is the last hereditary werewolf and that the most evil bloodthirsty vampire known to the netherworld wants him dead.

Fourteen-year-old Trey Laporte is not a kid anymore. Not after the day he wakes up in agony -- retina-splitting, vomit-inducing agony. His clothes are torn. His room is trashed.

Enter Lucien Charron, the mysterious, long-lost "uncle" with freakish fire-flecked eyes and skin that blisters in the sun. Suddenly, Trey finds himself living in a luxury penthouse at the heart of a strange and sinister empire built on the powers of the Netherworld -- vampires, demons, sorcerers, and djinn.

And there is a girl -- Alexa Charron -- who is half vampire, half human, and insanely pretty, with powers all of her own. Trey is falling for her.

Trey is training night and day to control the newly discovered power lurking inside him. Now, demons are closing in on every side, and the most psychopathic bloodsucker to rock the Netherworld wants to destroy him. Above all, he must face one terrifying question: Is he a boy . . . or is he a beast?

WEREling, by Steve Feasey, is a fast-paced adventure surrounding a fourteen-year-old boy and his supernatural genetics. Trey is thrust into a world of paranormal proportions in a matter of hours he is overwhelmed by a whirlwind of information as he discovers that his life is in grave danger. When I received this book, I was excited to read another werewolf story, but this book let me down.On the positive side, I liked the idea of the story. Feasey really stretched my imagination with his characters and the world they lived in. He created a unique setting that explored a different view on vampires, werewolves and other supernatural beings. I liked that Feasey's werewolf was more of old horror movie style versus the more wolf-like werewolves that dominate the market now. Also, there were many instances of action which I enjoyed very much.On the flip side, I really did not enjoy the dialogue. I felt that it was too proper and sometimes it distracted me from the actual story. I felt that some of the conversations would never occur in real life. Characters gave too much information regarding their feelings and thoughts, which I felt was awkward reading. For instance, the spats that Trey and Alexa frequently had were random and resolved too quickly with long-winded apologies that I think a fourteen year old would never come up with on his own. This book was previously released as Changeling, the beginning of a series. This book cleverly set up the series by giving a lot of backstory which I think made me not enjoy it as much. I did not feel there was a resolution at the end of this book, but I would actually not be against reading the next book to see if there is any improvement in the story. I still have mixed feelings about this book even now, so I can honestly say if it interests you I think you should check it out for yourself.

WEREling starts off right in the action. That's my favorite thing so there was no waiting for the hook in this one and I was interested in continuing on right after I started reading. The descriptions within this book are amazing. I kept finding myself looking forward to all of the instances in the book where Trey would have to shift because while reading, I could visualize everything that was going on. Not only the situations with Trey but with everything, including character and location descriptions as well. I loved the mc Trey. He had no clue what was going on, he wasn't perfect and he was even a jerk a couple times. Imperfections in the characters I read about make me happy. The secondary characters were awesome as well and even the characters that weren't in the book for long. There's this one characters who's only on a couple of pages but from the detail given you can just feel how bad he is and theres so much hate. It's written quite well. I can't go into too much detail about what happens later in the book because a few times I was caught off gaurd and I don't want to spoil anything for anyone but I was very pleased with the amount of time spent on Lucien. Ahh I can't even explain why but if you read it i'm sure you'll figure out what i'm talking about. Also the latter part of the novel is a real page turner. Once I hit a certain point I couldn't put it down, I just needed to know how everything turned out. I was glad for the surprises. A couple of times there were a few things I was sure were going to happen, that didn't so i'm pleased the author was able to keep up the shock value for me. I look forward to whatever comes next in Trey's journey(meaning I really hope there's a sequel because I have to know what's going to happen next). The cover: I love this cover. There is just something mysterious about it that pulled me in. I don't necessarily judge books by their cover because I read books with crappy covers all the time, but a good cover never hurts!!I recommend this to any reader who enjoy a good faster paced paranormal/werewolf book.

This is the first novel that I've read were the main character was a werewolf...well, shape shifter. Trey Laporte tells the story from his point of view as the events unfold and unfold they do as his world is turned upside down in less than 24 hours. Though short over all when compared to other books floating around in the YA genre right now, I think the length worked well for the story. The author allowed enough time for a natural transgression to occur from Trey's less than happy past to his unusual present and right to the beginnings of his uncertain future without dropping the story. Let's just say that book 2 is definitely on my Wish List....happy reading!

When I first read the premise for WEREling, I knew I would probably like it. What I wasn't expecting was how much I liked it. I loved it actually.Trey was a fabulous main character. His reactions were so spot on. From chapter one, I was invested in his story. But my favorite character by far was Lucien. He was completely mysterious and intriguing, yet humorous at the same time. I loved the way he spoke and his mannerisms. Alexa, Lucien's daughter, was also an enjoyable character. Trey and Alexa had great, natural chemistry. I usually prefer a little romance thrown into my stories. But when all the other elements are well crafted defined, romance isn't always needed. That is the case with WEREling. Of course, there leaves room for romance in future installments. :)Another wonderful quality about WEREling; it wasn't JUST a were book. It had other supernatural creatures I love thrown into the mix. But they were the "real" supernatural creatures. The scary kind that give you goosebumps. The kind I grew to love as a child. This was definitely one of those stories that took me to another place while reading. I didn't want to put it down, and was itching to pick it up when I had to. Feasey is a talented writer who knows how to draw in his audience, and keep them there. The ending had me craving more. I don't even want to wait for the sequel to come out in the US! If you loved the heroic protags in books like The Maze Runner or the Percy Jackson series, or if you just like creepy supernatural creatures, I think you will be a fan of this one too. Definitely a win for me!

Right from the start I have to say that above all else, reading Wereling has reminded me that trying something different often times ends up being a fantastic idea! Reading a male point of view is not something I'm used to, nor do I usually seek it out. I'm not quite sure why I picked this book up, I know it wasn't the cover (that kind of scared me) but whatever the reason, I'm just glad that I did.It was a nice change of pace for me and a good break in routine from what I normally read. Feasley's writing is quick and gripping. He sets a break neck pace from start to finish and had me stressed out through most of it...but in a good way. It was suspenseful and addicting. With characters like Trey, Lucien, Alexa and Tom, I never knew what to expect but enjoyed myself the whole way through. It was a great cast of characters and they were incredibly entertaining the entire way through. I found myself easily relating to each of them and felt concern and empathy for them as they went through their struggles within the novel. But along with the suspense and anxiety, Feasley managed to throw in a good bit of humor and kept things light when I found myself needing a short break from all the stress.I did however find that I needed to know what would happen to Trey and how he would handle all of these new revelations that were being thrown his way. I wanted to learn more about Lucien and whether his intentions were good or not, how dark was his past really? Is Tom as easy going as he seems, and how can he possibly survive with everything that's going on around him? And of course I wanted to know if anything would develop between Trey and Alexa beyond a platonic friendship...this might not be a romance but in some ways I'll never change, I'm always a sucker for a little bit of young love, lol!Feasley kept me on the edge with these questions in my head and although some were answered by the end of the novel I found the my list continued to grow. I've always loved a series as opposed to a stand alone novel because I hate to say goodbye to the characters that I grow so attached to, and Feasley has not disappointed me. I think I have a very good chance to see Trey and this bunch more in the future and can't wait.
