About this ebook

STOLEN NIGHTS by Rebecca Maizel
A Vampire Queen Novel

A new year is beginning at Wickham Boarding School. A new chance at life, at reversing the evil in my past. But nothing is ever as simple it seems...

Last year, the love of my life died performing a ritual to fulfill my one wish and make me human. And now I've performed the same ritual for my friend Vicken – and survived. Why am I here, back safe on Wickham campus?

The strong magic I used in the ritual did more than just make Vicken human. It drew someone to Lover's Bay who does not belong here. She wants the ritual. Then she wants me dead. And she will take down any and everyone in my life to get what she wants.

As if that weren't enough, the ritual has also summoned the anger of the Aeris, the four elements and most fundamental powers on earth. They have a surprise and an unbearable punishment for me – like stepping into the sun for the first time, only to be put into a cage. And now I have to make an impossible choice – between love or life, yearning or having, present or past…

This is the follow-up book to Infinite Days, which I really enjoyed! It really dragged at the beginning of the book, but picked up as the story went along. My favourite characters are definitely Vicken and Rhode. I found that Lenah's character in this book was a little hard to take. The concept of a secret ritual that could return vampires back into humans was intriguing. The themes of atonement, soul mates, and responsibility are major components of the story. The epilogue certainly gave me insight into the next book of the series.

Stolen Nights picks right up where we left off with Infinite Days. The ritual to Vicken a human has worked, and now there is a whole new set of problems that Lenah has to deal with. But if she survived the ritual, does that mean her soul mate (Rhode) did as well. Someone from her past has come into town and is causing chaos.
Lenah is still just the same as she always was, strong, brash and sometimes reckless. She made some decision that were dangerous and is conflicted with feeling about everything. Most of the time she was pining for her returned soul mate, while there so many things going around her that needs her attention instead. She redeemed herself toward the end and learning more about her history as a vampire was great. She was one merciless vampire. One of things I really liked was that there was a lot more Rhode and Vicken. I couldn’t help to but like them both. I rooted for Justin in Infinite Days, and I really enjoyed him. But, Wow he shocked me this time around.
The world building was enjoyable, with a new enemy causing issues for the trio and action that gets your blood pumping. The romantic aspect was sweet and heart breaking, the amount of love that Lenah and Rhode shared for each other was something everyone hopes for. Endearing and unconditional. The story itself didn’t go the way I thought it was heading, but I certainly can’t complain. Everything came together and made sense to me in the end. I’m not really sure how to describe the ending other than it was heart wrenching and happy at the same time. I can’t say anymore with out giving it all away. And the epilogue left me teary eyed and gave some renewed hope that I will see more of Lenah and Rhode.
Stolen Nights is was a worthy sequel to Infinite Days, and I am looking forward to seeing where Maizel take the story next. If you are a fan of first in this series or even just vampires in general, this is a great book and I would say give it a try. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Stolen Nights, the second book of Vampire Queen, IS AWESOME! Rebecca Maizel really did it with Stolen Nights! I really, really, really loved it! I'm so thankful to JP for introducing Infinite Days to me. :P

Remember my review in Infinite Days? I said I really wish that there'll be more kick-ass actions in the book. And heck! My wish was granted! I didn't get bored since from the start, there's 'actions'. And all my wish were there. I get to see Rhode again. Suleen. Tony (even though it's just mere seconds).

Anyhow, the plot was really good. I mean, it's really unique. With Lenah wanting to be human again after being made a Vampire without having a choice, from there, I know this story was really a unique one. A friend (yes, JP, it's you) already spoiled the book to me (Yes, yes, my fault for clicking the damn spoiler button) but still I can't wait to read it 2 days ago. I usually don't read spoilers cause I get lazy to finish a book, but Stolen Nights? I finished it in less than 10 hours! 8 hours to be exact cause I did some chores first.

So even knowing what happened to them because of the spoiler button (seriously?! Why did they invent spoiler button?!) I did not expect the characters and the story to be like that. I didn't imagine it, didn't thought of it. I hated the Aeris for keeping Lenah and Rhode away from each other. And I really hate the options they gave Lenah. :(

I didn't like Justin ever since book one. And even though he's been manipulated by Odette, and had a valid reason for THAT, I still don't like him. I'm really on TEAM RHODE.

Rhode, I love Rhode. Sheesh! No I'm not rating the book because of Rhode. I like him very much because he's really a sweet guy. And the sparks between him and Lenah? WOW. I just kept grinning. Right there and then, I want him to be happy with Lenah. He already lost too much and in pain for a long time. He deserves happiness. I just didn't get it how Rhode could be happy without Lenah. Cause Lenah decided to go back in 15th century and let Rhode be in the 21st. That's cruel. If you guys read the Epilogue, your heart will go out for Rhode. Mine did. :( But well, I understand why Lenah did that. She wanted to have a normal life, she didn't choose to be a vampire. But I wish there'll be a way they could still be together.

And there's Vicken! Omg. I like him too. I like him now that he's Human. He's funny, supportive, protective, and a lot more. I really enjoyed reading the book because of Vicken.

Lenah's choices were understandable, what I didn't understand was why she keeps hanging with Justin. What I really like was that she's connected to Rhode. She could see what's in Rhode's mind or just flashes of it. They are soulmates. So I really wish they'll still be together. I like that Lenah is a kick-ass character! She also do her spells like when she did when she was a vamp. Most books I've read says that once a vamp, you could not touch or do magic since they were undead. They don't have a life anymore and that's what I liked in SN too, vamps could do magic.

YES, I really want a third book. And I wonder when will there be a news about it. Seriously! How long should we wait for it?! >_<

    OVERALL, 5 FREAKIN' STARS!!!

    Oh wow!

I couldn't put this down, and I'm still thinking everything over in my head! Stolen Nights has great suspense, and the plot really took me by surprise; this is much better than the first book, and I even loved that book as well. The only bad thing I can find to say about it is that I really want another Vampire Queen book, but there's no indication from the ending that this may happen.

Lenah is given a choice in which she must choose what she thinks is best for repentance of her past vampire dealings. Does she chose the right decision? At her boarding school, people are dying left and right by the hands of a Vampire named Odette. Lenah made Odette the vampire she is, and these people that are dying... well, they're some meaningful people in her life. Can Lenah let go of love to save the lives of those she has wronged, or can she hold on to everything that has made her into the human she has become?

"'This is what it's like to be the hunted.'" (loc.2319)

The characters have evolved immensely as we learn more about their interrelationships and history. Vicken is a definite change for me, because I seriously love him in this book, with his wit, amazement and nonchalance towards everything. Lenah learns how to cope with selfishness, and how she must conquer the demons of her past. I'm very glad Maizel provided Odette as a strong antagonist, because she worked well as Lenah's Vampire mirror image. Lenah saw her Vampire self for the first time, and if she didn't do anything about it, all of humanity was in trouble.

"Death had been so easy to understand when we were vampires. But for a human, the death of a loved one was a point in history always to be referenced. A fixed point in your life that you constantly compared yourself with as you grew older.
The pin in the heart." (loc.691)

The apple is of great meaning in this work as it usually symbolizes love, youth and happiness, as well as the root of all evil (sin.) In Stolen Nights, the apple is always calling Lenah back home to her family orchards where she felt safe and untainted before her life as a vampire. It's amazing how one does not consider a singular person to be able to change the outcome of the future, either through good or evil. Both sides will have some repercussions that damage or hinder the society in things to come.

Stolen Nights captivated me, and put the world of vampirism in a fresh, fascinating and world altering perspective. Who knew that vampires could be so powerful? This book has some romance, action and gives a great thrill as it guides it's readers through the emotional charged world of The Vampire Queen. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, as well as the first, and I would be more than delighted to read more from Rebecca Maizel.

Review courtesy of All Things Urban FantasySTOLEN NIGHTS, the second book in the Vampire Queen series, was originally supposed to be published over a year ago. But there were delays. And more delays. INFINITE DAYS was a lovely, poignant story about “a vampire’s taste of humanity, her myriad of firsts as a human, the dangers from her past, and the love that brought her to life.” Imagine my surprise when STOLEN NIGHTS shucks all of that intimate beauty for a rather lackluster story about thwarting a power hungry vampire.*Sigh*. I was worried that all the delays might signify trouble with the story, and they did. So much of the heartache and raw emotion from the debut is just gone in this sequel. It’s as if the author wrote herself into a corner and instead of finding a way out, basically started all over. There is all this brand new mythology involving supernatural governing bodies known as Aeris, and seemingly arbitrary rules that are designed to create an obstacle between Lenah and Rhode. The problem was, the romance never felt important enough to care whether there were obstacles or not. Not with Rhode and certainly not with Justin who is reduced to a whinny shell of his former character. The main plot is perhaps the most disappointing part of STOLEN NIGHTS. It’s just not compelling at all. A vampire that Lenah created more than a century ago shows up wanting the ritual that made Lenah a human. She goes around slaughtering people all over campus while Lenah and friends try and stop her. It’s just so…generic. I felt none of the empathy for the characters this time, so their plight lacked any real impact. And Lenah’s waffling between Rhode and Justin wasn’t nearly compelling enough to make up for the main story. The ending seems pretty final, but it is my understanding that there will be a third book in the Vampire Queen series. I’m so disillusioned by this sequel that I don’t think I’ll be waiting around for any more of Lenah’s story.Sexual Content:Kissing. References to sex

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie TalesQuick & Dirty: An ex vampire queen must pay the price for her actions as a human, while losing her soul mate as a price of consequence.Opening Sentence: “You’re home,” Justin Enos said, leading me through the great stone towers of Wickham Boarding School. The Review:In the follow up to Rebecca Maizel’s wonderful Infinite Days, comes Stolen Nights. I was captivated by Infinite Days and wondered where else Maizel could take Lenah, Rhode, and her lovers. The release date for Stolen Nights was pushed back, and after finishing it, it was well worth the wait.Stolen Nights picks up where Infinite Days left off. Lenah is a human once again, and long gone are the days of being the Queen of the Vampires. She no longer has Rhode, and has moved on past Vicken and onto Justin. Sacrifices has helped her get to where she has, but the price has become too high. Her days as a vampire has caught up with her and it’s time to pay the price. The Aeris have brought punishment upon her, forcing her to face her actions as a ruthless vampire. A new vampire queen is wrecking havoc, and she must fix the situation or else face the consequences.I had a love and hate relationship with Lenah, thinking that she was selfish. But on the other hand, she was a woman in love. Lenah loved and loved, never thinking about the consequences. It bothered me a little bit, but once I put myself in her shoes, and in Maizel’s writing shoes, I understood where it was going. Love is a powerful emotion, and Maizel really drove that message throughout the book. Not just romantic love, but friendship and other types of love.Humanity changes people, in a paranormal sense, and Maizel showcased the strengths and weaknesses between vampire life and human life. It was amusing to see Vicken and his human antics, living like his former self, but in the present century. Rhode still had that air about him, forever a warrior and a leader, filled with strength and arrogance. But you can’t deny that the companionship and loyalty is there, with any of them, and I really loved that. I didn’t love Justin in Stolen Nights as I did in Infinite Days. He changed, but so did the rest of them.To me, it felt like Stolen Nights carried a darker theme. It was definitely more somber, and maybe even more depressing. It had this forbidden love mood throughout the book, and it was putting this huge grey cloud over my head. It was sad to see where each character went, personality wise. Some actions, I didn’t agree with, especially when it came to love’s affections, but it was honest. Maizel didn’t sugar coat anything. You win some and you lose some, whether in times of love and/or war.I felt like Stolen Nights needed more. There were a lot of questions in my mind after finishing the book. I wanted to know more about the Aeris, what really happened to Rhode, and why things were done in a certain way. The twist in the end is heart-wrenching. I didn’t expect that at all. Tears for at least ten minutes.Stolen Nights was a good conclusion to Infinite Days. Definitely somber and depressing, like I said earlier, but not everything is roses. Maizel knows her audience and definitely doesn’t hold back. If you’ve read Infinite Days, you must pick up Stolen Nights.Notable Scene:“I’ll need those papers in class today,” Ms. Tate said from the darkened entrance to Curie. My eyes lingered on the trees and on the morning sunlight shining through the breaks in the branches. I did not have time to search for eyes watching me.I walked into the building with an absolute certainty in my gut.I was being hunted.FTC Advisory: St. Martin’s Griffin provided me with a copy of Stolen Nights. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

love this story soo much! Another amazing story that completely swept me off my feet, it too leaves me speechless. What do you do when you first love is still alive? AHHHHHHHH! Ms. Maizel has taken this story to a whole new level where I just want to scream. The plot of the book starts off strong, highlight the revelation that will change everything. What we thought we knew is not true, grasping everything new it quickly stole my breathe. Each new chapter raises a another level of a dangerous game I love to play. The love interest is of course...amazing. Lenah has to make several choices that are easy to make. Sacrifices the will hurt one person or the other. Damn if you do, damn if you don't. It's tough learning and watching Lenah make her move. I can assure you it's one that leaves plenty of doors open for another book.Stolen Nights is an brilliant story that captivates the reader from the first page. Highly engrossing, Stolen Nights takes your breathe away with lots of plot twists and turns. The author creates a great world building and moving depth in emotions. A piercing story that will make you long for more, Stolen Nights brings new life to YA.
