About this ebook

In the thrilling conclusion to Amy Kathleen Ryan's Sky Chasers series, Waverly, Kieran, and Seth struggle to survive on-board the New Horizon—and take down their enemies before it's too late
Waverly and the other members of the Empyrean have been scattered, and their home ship destroyed. Their mission to rescue their parents didn't go as planned, and now they're at an even greater disadvantage: trapped with their enemies on the New Horizon, trying to find a way to survive. Kieran has been pulled under Anne Mather's wing, but is she really trying to make peace, or just using Kieran to build her own power? Meanwhile, Waverly is taken in by a mysterious old man who wants to help her bring Anne Mather down—but the more Waverly cooperates with him, the more dangerous her position is, and the more at odds with Kieran she becomes.

Seth's situation is even worse. After setting out from the Empyrean on his own, with only a vague strategy to guide him, he is a fugitive aboard the New Horizon. He's doing what he can to challenge the power of Anne Mather, but he's badly hurt, and getting sicker. All the while, unknown to him, the terrorist Jacob is making plans of his own.

Will Seth ever see Waverly again? Will his health hold out long enough to help her topple their enemies? And will Waverly find a way to unite with her friends before they all fall? Nothing is sure and every moment is a risk in Flame, the explosive finale of the Sky Chasers series.

I thought the ending was the perfect conclusion this series deserved. I found myself questioning if everyone would get their happy ending because of the constant twists and turns that I have begun to expect from “A Sky Chasers” novel, but I am glad to report that I could not have seen this series ending any other way. I am looking forward to reading other books by Amy Kathleen Ryan.

The character growth doesn’t make up for the fact that the plot gets out of hand. Kieran, Seth, and Waverly are rebelling in their own ways on board the New Horizon. Kieran is defying Anne Mathers by showcasing her hypocrisy in front of everyone and she’s starting to see it herself. Waverly who finds herself sleeping with the enemy as the council of the ship wants her to help them bring Mathers down and take control of the ship. Most interesting of all is Seth who’s hiding as a stowaway and making friends with Empyrean sympathizers on the New Horizon and is finding new information about who really calls the shots in the vessel’s government. Meanwhile there’s a looming threat in the shape of two psychopaths still traumatized about the death of their unborn baby. Their grief doesn’t make them psychos rather the obsession with getting revenge. It was a wild ride to get to where the book ends. I ended up hating all the main characters only to feel okay when we read where they ended up at the end. Okay is not good, the author should want me to be crying tears of joy or bitterness because the story is over. I was at peace because I did not care what happened to them when I got to the end. Luckily all the characters finally churn out the growth that I had been expecting since the first book. Hatchets are buried, decisions are made with more preparation, no one acts more stupidly than necessary, and every works out with a nice little bow towards the end. I still hate the anti-religious agenda because that’s not what makes people go crazy. Mathers is a classic case of a self-righteous person who elevated herself above everyone completely ignoring the main teachings of what she claims to follow: being a humble pie. I’m pleased to see that Kieran learned that lesson…it’s not that hard. Waverly showed a little bit of bitchiness when she started mocking his religious beliefs once more in what would be their last bit of communication since the New Horizon and Empyrean were flying further and further apart and the coms would be out of range. And I hate how magically they both found their twu wuvs the right-under-your-nose trope (Waverly was always threatened by Felicity, Seth had been in love with Waverly first) *gag* I’m just glad to be done with this series.

Everybody is having problems adjusting to the new environment of the New Horizon. They are filled with hate and anger. They drugged the parents, lied, stole, and so much more. Loved ones died , putting the last number od death to shame. Power is a constant trouble. If somebody doesn't stop it, it could end us all. Nobody knows the next step they will take. I thought the ending to this series was the best. Other authors left with out a real ending, but not Amy Kathleen Ryan. It seemed to me that the happy ending was far away. Not until it came with an explosion. Everybody that had been scared or alone, suddenly were not. Although some of the information at the end was impossible and could never happen. Other than that the book was great.
