About this ebook

Within each of us, God has deposited a dream, but it is only by faith that we will see those dreams manifest. One cannot drive a car forward and in reverse at the same time, neither can faith and fear coexist in the life of a believer. Faith Forward was written to encourage readers to take God at His Word, regardless of the obstacles we will face.

    Faith Forward - Charles Roberts

    accomplish.

    Have Faith in God

I was on the track team in high school and our coach’s name was Coach Lewis. He was one of the best coaches in the state, as seen in the number of victories from his previous teams. When Coach Lewis spoke, we listened attentively. He was a proven winner, and we knew he possessed the knowledge to help us win. We believed in Coach Lewis and gave 110 percent during practice, striving to please him. He strategically placed some runners in an event that was not their first choice, but he knew they had the skills to perform, giving our team a greater chance of winning. If Coach Lewis told us we were going to win, then there was no doubt in our minds it would happen.

As good as Coach Lewis was, he still cannot be compared to God. Many believers find it easier to put their trust in people before they trust God. When we do this, we set ourselves up for disappointment. Psalm 118:8 says, It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. God is the real deal, and He can be trusted at all times. His record is flawless. His character is impeccable, and His Word is true. Knowing this, we should find it easy to trust Him. In order to accomplish great things, we must have our faith anchored in God at all times. Part- time faith is not enough, it will take a lifetime commitment of faith to do the impossible. When our faith is in God, we learn that nothing is impossible with Him for Nothing is too hard for Him (Gen. 18:14). God can do anything but fail. Losing is not in His DNA, and it is not in ours for His Word says that We are more than conquerors (Rom. 8:37).

Within every believer God has deposited a dream. These dreams are no different than a seed one would plant in the ground. For that seed to grow and flourish, it must be in an environment where it gets sufficient light and water. Those seeds that receive adequate light and water tend to grow faster and stronger than those that do not. Our faith is similar. When we keep our faith anchored in God regardless of what is going on in the natural, those dreams become more and more real until one day, there is a breaking forth that takes place. The unseen becomes reality. For this breaking forth to take place it takes determination, strength, vision and total reliance on God’s Word. The Bible says, Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes; For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited (Isa. 54:2-3). Did you notice the words break forth in that verse? Break forth means to appear, burst forth and spring up. Think about it: As we keep our eyes on Jesus, focusing our Faith Forward, the dreams that God has deposited within us will all of a sudden burst forth on the scene.

Joseph had a dream. He was 17 years old when God told him he would one day rule and his family would bow before him. This was beyond anyone’s comprehension. When Joseph shared his dream with his brothers, the Scripture says, They hated him yet the more (Gen. 37:5). As a result, his brothers threw him in a pit and later sold him into slavery. Joseph was falsely accused and thrown into prison for something he did not do. It would have been easy for him to give up on the dream that God gave him. Anyone else in that situation probably might have said, My dreams will never come to pass. I might as well face the fact that I missed God and my time has come and gone.

But not Joseph. What stands out to me about Joseph is how the Scriptures remind us that the Lord was with him. To withstand the various trials that are sure to come our way, we must remind ourselves that God is with us. We are never alone, regardless of the circumstances we will face. Satan will do his best to get us to believe that God has forgotten us, but the Devil is a liar and the father of it (John 8:44).

Our faith must be anchored in the Lord. If you have ever seen a cruise ship, you will notice it has a large anchor attached, which the crew will drop when they do not want the ship to move. No matter how fierce the winds may blow, as long as the anchor has been released, the ship will remain in place until the captain decides he is ready to have it raised.

This was true with Joseph. No matter what others did to him, his faith was anchored on God’s promises. What I love about the story is Joseph always kept a good attitude. He even went out of his way to minister to others by interpreting the dreams of the baker and butler.

If we are going to give birth to the dreams God has deposited within us, we must be determined to stay positive, keeping our eyes on God, knowing that at some point He will bring to pass what He promised. As the years passed, we see that God in fact came through. There was a breaking forth in Joseph’s life when he was released from prison. Genesis 41:14 says, Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh. Within no time Joseph was released from prison, standing before Pharaoh and later, he was promoted to second in command over all of Egypt. God wants to do the same thing in our lives, but we must keep our faith rooted in Him, knowing
