      Chapter 1: Introduction

      For when I called, no one answered, when I spoke, no one listened. - Isaiah 66:4

      The popular expression, Can’t you read the writing on the wall? is based on the Bible story from the book of Daniel chapter 5. At King Belshazzar’s banquet, a hand suddenly appears and writes an indecipherable message on the wall. In the entire kingdom, only God’s prophet Daniel is able to interpret the writing, which is a warning about the downfall of Belshazzar’s kingdom. As Christian disciples, we acknowledge God as Lord of our lives, and seek His will for the decisions we have to make. We ask God for guidance, and we feel like the answers to our questions are right in front of us, but we can’t read the writing. We just can’t figure out what God wants us to do. Because we see so many Christians earnestly seeking to know God’s direction for their lives, and struggling to hear from Him, we’ve put together this booklet to help Christians discern God’s leading in their lives.

      Chapter 2: Different Ways to Hear God

      He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. - Psalm 23:3

      When we ask God to lead us, there are many different ways to hear what He wants us to do. He speaks to us in different ways at different times, but every time God speaks, he is consistent; no matter which methods you use to hear God, they should all agree. Here is a quick overview of how God speaks to us, with a chapter following for each one. When God guides us through these methods, they should all align, because our God is a God of consistency.

      Listening to God’s commands. The Bible contains God’s commands for living a moral life. He never directs us to do anything that would violate his moral code, so the first place to find God’s leading is in his commands for leading moral lives.
