    FAITH IS…………

Many people commonly use the term I have faith or I am walking by faith, but seemingly are not experiencing the results which go along with living a successful life of faith. In this book, we will go into detail about how to acquire faith and how to receive God’s blessings through faith. When an individual is truly walking by faith, they are able to experience victory in every area of life. Now let’s begin our journey by first defining the word faith.

The Webster’s New World Dictionary defines faith as an unquestioning belief that does not require proof or evidence; a firm persuasion, a conviction based upon hearing. Faith is a collection of facts that proves something is true. For our purposes, the collection of facts is the Word of God. The Bible definition of faith is found in the following scripture:

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen [Hebrews 11:1].

Faith is always present tense, right now; it is the tangible thing that you believe is true, although you can’t physically view it at the moment. Faith perceives as real fact what is not revealed to the senses; it occupies the place of what is not visible until what you believe is physically manifest. For instance, your daughter is away at college, she calls to tell you that she will be coming home for the weekend on Friday, around 5:00p.m. From the moment your darling daughter utters those words, you believe you will see and get to wrap your arms around her on Friday. There is no physical evidence to substantiate you seeing your daughter, just the trusted words she has spoken. You immediately prepare a mental checklist of all the things you need to do before your daughter comes home [clean her room, prepare a special dinner, etc.]. Friday is here, you become more excited as your daughter’s arrival time approaches. A key rattles in the lock as you make your way to the door; your loving daughter walks in and you wrap your arms around her. You have just experienced faith. You believed something was true although there was no physical evidence. You continued believing and acting like it was true until it physically came into being. In this book, we will discuss how to transport ordinary faith into faith in God.

When talking about faith in God, we must always discuss the Word of God because God is faithful to His Word. The Creator has a continued, steadfast adherence to His Word and has bound Himself by oath, as is evident in the verses below:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God [John 1:1].

God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good [Numbers 23:19]?

God and His Word have existed since the beginning of time; you can depend on the Lord to perform His Word. In the Bible, there is a promise from God of victory for any situation or challenge that will ever arise in your life. So, it is imperative that you know God’s Word on any subject that you believe Him to manifest Himself. [At the end of the book there is a scripture reference for some of the most common subjects that are needed in our daily lives.] When you believe God’s Holy Scriptures, a triumphant conclusion will manifest. I’m emphasizing the validity of God’s Word because you can trust God to fulfill His Word. God’s Word will never fail.

Faith is a lifestyle which may require some adjustment in our daily lives; this is natural because we are used to believing in things that we can see, taste, and touch. Faith requires that we believe from the heart that things not yet seen are manifest. Even Thomas, one of the twelve disciples of Jesus, had to modify his actions regarding faith, take a look at the scripture below:

Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said to him, We have seen the Lord. So he said to them, Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe. And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace to you! Then He said to Thomas, Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing. And Thomas answered and said to Him, My Lord and my God! Jesus said to him, Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed [John 20:24-29].

When Jesus was crucified and arose from the dead, there were over five hundred witnesses. But Thomas, who had been with Jesus before his death and learned His teachings, including faith, refused to believe Jesus had arose from the dead unless he saw and touched Jesus himself. Jesus appeared before Thomas and he believed, but the real blessings come when we believe without seeing. When we learn to take God at His Word and do not doubt, even if physical circumstances may seem contrary to what we believe, then God’s blessings in our lives are imminent.

    How Do We Get Faith?

According to the Bible, everyone has faith.

….As God has dealt to each one a measure of faith [Romans 12:3].

God has given every person a degree of faith; He has placed inside each one of us the ability to believe without seeing. Each of us believes at different levels on various subjects in life depending upon how much exposure we have had to diverse topics. The lessons our parents have taught us, our different life experiences, religion, etc. is what forms our values and beliefs and shapes our lives; this is why people believe more strongly in certain areas than others or in some areas may not believe at all. Faith is used in our daily lives without most of us ever thinking about it. For example, when you go to work each day, you sit in the office chair. You do not check to make sure the screws are tightened or that the chair is sturdy. You just sit in the chair because you have faith that it is strong enough to support you. Faith now needs to be transported into faith in God, so that you may now start to experience victory in any area of life where you may currently have challenges. Like the chair that you believe will support you, when you believe God’s Word, He will never let you fall. The Bible says

Now to Him [God] who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present
