    21.

    Surat Al Anbi'yaa

    (The prophets)

Revealed in Makkah after Surat Ibrahim. One hundred and twelve Ayahs.

    ______________________________________

(This Sura carries a simple yet most significant message. In 21:92, God tells all the monotheistic believers that they are members of one nation, the same nation of believers, worshipping the same Lord and obeying the same laws.

(The One God could not have sent three or more different religions. True Judaism, true Christianity and true Islam are not three different religions but one.

(That one religion of believers in The One God Who Created all, was given its name by the prophet Ibrahim, and its name is Islam.

(All monotheistic believers are Muslims, regardless of what they choose to call themselves.

(Taken to its logical end, the true faithful should immediately stop all the enmity and the warring amongst each other, and start directing their energies to fulfilling their duties towards the entire earth and the entire humanity, believers and unbeliever alike, and that is the establishing of universal justice and enshrining mercy and compassion in the world.)

    In the name of Allah,

    The Most Compassionate,

    The Most Merciful.

    1.

The day of reckoning is drawing near,

    Yet, people are shunning it,

    Unaware!

    2.

Whenever a new revelation comes to them,

    From Their Lord,

They listen to it all but playfully,

    3.

    And, with oblivious hearts!

And the unjust ones [the unbelievers],

    Secretly conferred [about Muhammad, saying],

Is he anything but a man like us?

[And they said to each other]

    How could you come,

    With open eyes,

To this sorcery [of Muhammad and the Qur'an that he recites]!

    4.

and he [Muhammad] said [to them],

    My Lord knows,

    All of what is said,

In the heavens and the earth,

And He is The All Hearing,

    The All Knowing!

    5.

    They even said,

These [Ayahs of the Qur'an] are nothing but

    [the outpourings of],

    Confused dreams!

    And they said,

These [Ayahs] are nothing but fabrications

    [By Muhammad!]

    [and they said]

He [Muhammad] is nothing but a poet

[Who invented the Qur'an and attributed it to God!]

    And they said,

Let him come to us with a sign [a miracle],

Such as what was sent down,

    With the earlier messengers!

    6.

    We destroyed not a town,

    [That was] before them,

    When it believed!

    Would these [unbelievers] now believe!

    7.

And We sent not [messengers] before you [Oh Muhammad],

But who were men [like you],

To whom We revealed [Our message].

So, ask the people of the book

[The Christians and the Jews, about that]

    If you knew that not!

    8.

    And we made them not,

    Bodies that ate not,

    And they were not immortal!

(This Ayah tells us, unequivocally, that no human being is ever immortal. And that answers the question of whether Isa Jesus still alive or not. The Qur'an states that he was raised by God, but in what form? This Ayah gives us the answer.)

    9.

Then, We fulfilled Our promise to them,

    And We saved them,

And We saved whomever We pleased

    [of their followers],

    And We destroyed the excessive

    [in sinfulness].

    10.

We truly sent down to you [O people of Quraish],

    A book [the Qur'an],

    In which you are mentioned!

Do you not comprehend [what that meant]!

    11.

    And many were the times,

That We destroyed the unjust towns,

And We replaced them with other people!

    12.

    And when they felt Our might;

    They fled their hometowns!

    13.

    Flee not!

    Return to your homes,

And to your extravagance [if you so wish],

For you shall be asked [to account for your deeds]!

    14.

    They said,

    Woe to us!

    We truly were unjust!

    15.

    And that cry of theirs,

    Remained,

    Till We reaped them,

    Dead!

    16.

And We created not the heavens and the earth,

    And what is between them,

    For a game!

    17.

Had We ever wished to amuse Ourselves,

    We would have taken up,

[Some divine] amusements of Our own,

That is if We ever wished to do that!

    18.

    But what We do,

Is to throw the truth upon the untruth,

    To demolish it.

    And demolished it shall become!

And woe unto you [O unbelievers],

    From what you describe!

    19.

And to Him [Allah] belongs all there is,

    In the heavens and earth,

And those [angels] who are with Him,

    Never spurn worshipping Him,

Nor do they ever tire of it!

    20.

    They worship Him by day,

And they worship Him by night,

    And never do they wane

    [in worshipping Him]!

    21.

Or did they proclaim for themselves, gods,

    From the earth,

    Who can resurrect [the dead]!

    22.

Had there been in them [the heavens and the earth],

    Gods, beside Allah,

They [the heavens and the earth] would have been ruined

[As every god will seek to become supreme!]

So, exalted is The Lord Allah,

    Who is on the throne,

High above all of what they describe!

    23.

He [Allah] is not accountable for His deeds,

But, all else are accountable for theirs!

    24.

Or did they proclaim for themselves,

    Other gods beside Him!

    Say [to them, Oh Muhammad]

    Bring forth your proof

[For their divinity and ability to create!]

    [And say, Oh Muhammad]

This is the citation [the Qur'an],

    That is sent with me.

    And these were the citations,

    [The earlier scriptures],

    Which were sent before me!

    No!

Most of them know not the truth,

    And they turn away!

    25.

And We sent not a prophet before you [Oh Muhammad],

    To whom We revealed not,

That there is no God but I.

    So, worship Me!

    26.

And they [the people of the book] said,

    That The Compassionate [Allah],

    Has begotten a son!

    No!

[Never did He beget a son]

    But honoured servants,

    27.

Who supersede not what He says,

    With their words,

And they do as He commands [them to do]!

    28.

He [Allah] knows what is between their hands,

And what is behind their backs,

And they intercede not for any one,

    Save for whom,

He [Allah] gives [them] leave [to intercede].

    And, because they fear Him,

    They are watchful [for themselves].

(This Ayah tells us that all prophets shall intercede for the special group of their people who will need their intercession, but only with God's permission. They are the ones whose good deeds equalled their bad deeds on the scales.)

    29.

And he, from among them [the prophets],

Who says that he is a god, beside Him [Allah],

We [Allah] will requite him with Jahannam,

For such is how We requite the unjust!

(No prophet of God, including Isa Jesus, ever claimed to be a god beside The Lord.)

    30.

Did not those who believe not,

    See that,

The heavens and the earth were one [continuum],

And that we intersected them [with the clouds],

    And out of water,

We truly created every living thing!

    Would they not then believe!

(What keeps all the living alive on earth is water, and it is Allah who holds in the clouds. Would not man wake up to that fact and honour The One Who keeps them alive?)

    31.

    And We created on earth,

    Mountains to stabilize it,

    Lest it quivers with them,

    And we made in it,

    Pathways for them,

Perhaps, they will be guided [on their travels]!

    32.

And We made the sky to be a guarded roof

[To protect those who live on earth],

But they turn away from its signs!

(How could a man, lettered or unlettered, living in the seventh century as the prophet Muhammad did, how could he has known that the sky is a guarded roof for those who live on earth?)

    33.

    And it is He [Allah],

Who created the night and the day,

And the sun and the moon,

And each moves in its own orbit!

(Again, how could a man, lettered or unlettered, living in the seventh century, such as the prophet Muhammad, how could he has known that the sun and the moon move in their own orbits?)

    34.

And never did We give immortality,

To a human being [who ever lived],

    Before you [Oh Muhammad]!

    Will it be them,

    Who will be immortal,

    When you die!

(This Ayah tells us that no human being was ever immortal. Those who claimed that the prophet Isa Jesus is still alive should take note.)

    35.

    Every soul shall taste death,

And We afflict you [O people] with harm,

    And with benefit,

    [In order] to test you.

And to Us you shall return!

(Those who are searching for the meaning of life should stop here. Life is neither a reward nor a punishment for any one. Life is only a test. Reward or punishment comes after judgment on the day of judgment.

(Those who were wondering why a person should be sick and another healthy again should stop here. For sickness and health are not a punishment or a reward for the person involved, they are only a test. The same applies for poverty and richness, meekness and otherwise. All are parts of the person's test.

(Life is the question to which every one of us is required to give his answer. And like in a test, it is not the question that matters, it is the answers.)

    36.

And when the unbelievers see you [Oh Muhammad],

They take you for a mockery,

    [Saying],

Is this the one who talks about your gods!

But they deny the mention of The Compassionate!

    37.

    Man was created hasty!

I will show you [O people] My signs,

So, become not in haste for them!

(The signs that were meant here are those of the Hour and what happens then and paradise and hellfire. The haste shown by unbelievers simply states, though unreasonable, that since it did not happen so far, it will not happen!

(An unbeliever once told me that as he could see that all these dead people of long ago have not gone anywhere, he did not believe in the resurrection. I told him that they are all waiting on the platform for a train that has not arrived yet!)

    38.

    And they say,

When will that promise come true,

If what you say [Oh Muhammad] is true?

    39.

If only those who believe not,

    Could see,

    How incapable they would be,

Of diverting the fire away from their faces,

    Or their backs,

And [if only they could realize] that,

    They will not be supported

[By any of the gods that they claim for themselves!]

    40.

    Nay!

It [the Hour] will come upon them,

    Suddenly,

    And it will bewilder them,

And they will be incapable of halting it,

And they will not be deferred!

    41.

    Mocked were they,

Many messengers before you [Oh Muhammad],

    And those who mocked them,

Were surrounded [on the day of judgment],

With what [events that] they mocked!

    42.

    Say [O Muhammad],

    Who is it,

    Who can protect you,

    From The Compassionate,

    During the day,

    Or during the night!

    Nay!

    They are turning away,

    From remembering Their Lord!

    43.

Or do they have gods other than Me,

Who can protect them [from Me]!

They [the false gods] cannot even protect themselves,

Nor can they be protected from Me!

    44.

    It is that We provided,

For these [people] and their fathers,

    And they lived long,

In what we provided for them!

    Did they not see,

    That We reduce the earth,

    From its margins!

Can they then ever win [against Allah]!

    45.

    Say [O Muhammad],

I warn you with what is revealed to me [the Qur'an]!

But [know that] the [spiritually] deaf,

Hears [heeds] not the calling [of The Lord],

    When they are warned!

    46.

    And if they are touched,

With a whiff of Your Lord’s torments,

    They would say,

    Woe to us!

    We truly were unjust!

    47.

And We [Allah] will lay down the fair scales [for all],

    On the day of resurrection.

And no soul shall be unjustly treated,

    Even for as much,

As the weight of a mustard seed!

And We are enough for accurate reckoning!

    48.

And We truly gave the Fur’qaan

[The book that distinguishes between what is good,

And what is bad in the sight of The Lord],

    To Musa and Haroun!

We gave them light [the Torah],

    And We gave them reminders,

    For the God-fearing,

    49.

    Who fear Their Lord,

    Without seeing Him,

And who are fearful of the hereafter.

(No one has ever seen the air in front of his eyes. No one has ever seen the oxygen that he breathes. But the knowledgeable knows that oxygen exists and he knows how it behaves and how important it is for his survival, all without seeing it. And it is the same with God.)

    50.

And this [Qur'an] is a blessed recitation,

    That We [Allah] sent down.

How could you then deny it!

    51.

    And We guided Ibrahim before,

And of him [and his conditions],

    We were fully aware.

    52.

When he said to his father and his people,

    What are these idols,

    To which you are devoted?

    53.

    They said,

We found our fathers worshipping them

    [So, we worship them too!]

    54.

    He said,

Then, both you and your fathers,

    Were evidently misguided!

    55.

    They said,

Did you come to us with the truth,

    Or, are you being playful?

    56.

    He said,

    No!

    Your [true] Lord is,

The Lord of the heavens and the earth,

    Who originated them,

And I give [you my] testimony to that!

    57.

And [he, Ibrahim, said] By Allah,

I shall plot against your idols,

When you leave them and go on your way!

(Here we have a scene where there many idols proclaimed as gods by the people of Ibrahim, being stationed in a sort of a 'holy courtyard,' with a chief god, also an idol, presiding over them. They could all be observed to hear not, see not, and do nothing.

(The plot that Ibrahim designed was to smash all these stone idols with his axe, then go and hang the axe around the neck of the chief god, the biggest icon. He hoped that by so doing his people will wake up to the realization that these icons are incapable of doing anything at all, and should not be proclaimed by them as gods.

(Initially, his people saw the point, and they realized that they were wrong to think of these as gods. But soon, they went back to their unbelief, and decided to build a big fire to burn Ibrahim alive for daring to do what he did to their gods. It is almost unbelievable, and also unnatural, that Ibrahim’s father agreed!

(They threw Ibrahim into the fire, only to see him coming out of it looking as if he enjoyed the experience. That alone should have alerted them that they are seeing something noteworthy here, but such is the nature of unbelief, it has no eyes, no ears and no heart!

(Looking to them to be apparently indestructible, they left Ibrahim to go on his way, out of their land, which is thought to be somewhere between Iraq and Turkey, and into the holy land of Palestine.

(Through his son Is'haq Isaac, Ibrahim became the father of the Hebrews, the Arabic meaning of the word is 'the people who came in from across the boundaries' and through his son Ismail Ishmael he became the father of the Arabs.

(Based on simple observation of genetic features, I believe that the Palestinians of today are all the children of Ibrahim through his son Is'haq, not Ismail. Some of them remained as Jews, and some became Christians and some Muslims as time changed and new eras arrived.

(As we will see in this Sura, all of the prophets, and therefore all their followers, are considered by God to be members of One Nation, called by God the Muslim nation.

(It was indeed Ibrahim who established the religion of Islam, long before any messenger after him was sent, and it was him who called all of his offspring by the name Muslims. Some of his offspring, however, chose to adopt the group name of Jews, referring to Judah son of Jacob, and some called themselves Christians, referring to the Messiah Isa Jesus son of Maryam.

( I dream of seeing the day when the followers of Ibrahim, the Monotheistic believer in The One God, would realize this fact; that they are all members of the same religion, and stop this 'family' wars that raged for many centuries.)

    58.

And he [Ibrahim] reduced them [the idols] into rubble,

    Except for their biggest idol,

Perhaps they will go to it and ask

[About who did this to them!]

    59.

    They said,

Who did that to our gods?

    Truly, he was unjust!

    60.

They [some of the people] said,

We heard a boy mentioning them,

    Called Ibrahim!

    61.

    They said,

Bring him under the people’s gaze,

    Perhaps they will witness it!

    62.

    They said,

Did you do this to our gods,

    O Ibrahim?

    63.

    He said,

(In an attempt to make them see the truth rather than trying to lie to them.)

    No!

It was their biggest [idol] who did it,

    And if they could talk,

    Ask them!

    64.

And they conferred then and said to each other,

    Truly, it is we,

    Who are unjust

[For believing what we believe about these idols!]

    65.

Then, they turned on their heals,

    And said [to Ibrahim],

You know that these [idols] could talk not!

    66.

    He [Ibrahim] said,

    Then, why worship,

    Beside Allah,

What benefits you not for a thing,

Nor can it do you any harm!

    67.

    [And Ibrahim said to them]

    Uff to you,

    (An expression of disgust)

And to what you worship beside Allah!

    Could you not comprehend!

    68.

    They said,

    Burn him [Ibrahim],

And support your gods [against him],

If you are going to support them!

    69.

And We said [to the fire that they built],

    Oh fire!

Become cool and peaceful for Ibrahim!

    70.

They designed a plot against him,

But We made them the losers!

    71.

And we saved him [Ibrahim] and Lut,

[And We took them] to the land,

That We blessed for all people!

    72.

And We granted him [Ibrahim], Is’haq [Isaac],

And [We further granted him his grandson] Yaqoub [Jacob],

And We made both of them [Is'haq and Yaqoub] pious!

    73.

    And We made them leaders,

Who would guide [the people] by Our commands,

And We revealed it to them,

    To do good deeds,

    And to keep their prayers,

    And pay their Zakah,

    And they truly were worshipful!

    74.

And We gave knowledge and wisdom to [the prophet] Lut Lot,

And We saved him from the town,

That practiced the vile deeds [homosexuality],

For they were disobedient [to The Lord],

(There is no amount of political power that can hide the fact that homosexuality is sinful in the eyes of the Lord. Such is how it is in the Bible and how it is in the Qur'an, and that is a fact that must be accepted as such.

(It is one thing to say that a homosexual has disobeyed his Lord by his act, and it is another thing altogether to say, in effect, that God was wrong to regard homosexual practice as sinful, or to claim that homosexuality is a normal and physiologic activity, and it is only a matter of personal preference.

(The reason homosexuality is banned in the scriptures and also in the Qur'an is that is not conducive to the good of society, neither it is good for the homosexuals themselves, and as such should be discouraged.

(The punishment prescribed in the Qur'an for committing a homosexual act in public is vastly different, however. In the Bible, it is death. In the Qur'an it is, to be bothered about it socially until the man repents, or to be prevented from circulating among the society if it was a woman, until such time when God makes an opening for her, but not to be bothered about it. If the person repents, however, he should not be bothered at all about it.

(I would like to add a little observation here. Since we have seen that, according to the Qur'an, bothering a person is a punishment for a particular infringement, it follows that if a person bothers another in any way without a valid reason for him to do so such as what is described above, then that person would be committing an injustice.)

    75.

And We took him into Our mercy,

For he was one of the pious!

    76.

And Nuh Noah truly cried to Us before,

    And We answered his call,

And We saved him and his family,

From that great calamity [of the flood].

    77.

    And we supported him,

Against the people who believed not in Our signs,

    For they were vile people.

    We drowned them all.

    78.

And [the prophets] Dawoud and Sulaiman,

    When they sat for judgment,

In the case of the sheep,

    That devoured the people's plantations,

    And We observed their judgment.

    79.

And We made Sulaiman understand it.

(This is very interesting. A case was brought to the great prophet Dawoud, king David, for judgment. The sheep of one person went over the field of another and ate all of his plantations. How was it to be judged?

(Here, God chose to guide to the proper judgment, not the king, the ruler and the prophet Dawoud, before whom the case was brought to be examined, but his young son Sulaiman, who was none of the above at that time.

(The implication here is that, no one should make any presumptions as to who should God give His guidance and His light or chooses as His messenger. It is not for us to choose, it is entirely up to God.

(Wisdom is offered by God to whomever it is offered, and no one should presume that only the person in authority have the right to pronounce judgment while every one else is ignored. That is why, incidentally, Islam is a priest-free religion, and rightly so.

(We can also find a parallel in the story of the prophet Muhammad. For the Jews of Madinah refused to believe in him simply because he was not Jewish. Some of the unbelievers of Quraish refused to believe in him because he was not one of the noble men of Quraish or Al Ta'if.

(It is for God alone to choose where and to whom He should send His light and His wisdom.)

    We gave knowledge and wisdom,

To each of them [Dawoud And Sulaiman].

And We made the mountains and the birds,

    Exalt Allah,

    With Dawoud,

    We truly did!

    80.

    And We taught him [Dawoud],

How to make armoury for you,

To protect you during your wars.

    So, are you grateful!

    81.

And We made the wind blow,

    As Sulaiman commanded,

To the land that We blessed.

    And We knew all things!

    82.

And We made the demons dive for him [Sulaiman],

And work things other than that.

And it was We [Allah] who kept them

[From escaping this work, that must have seemed demeaning to them, as the Jinn consider themselves to be superior to man!]

    83.

    And Ayoub [Job],

When he cried to His Lord [Saying],

    Oh Lord!

I was touched with an affliction,

And [I beseech you to remove it from me, for]

You are the most merciful of all!

    84.

    And We answered his call,

And We removed the affliction that befell him,

And We lead his wife back to him,

And We gave him another one [wife] like her,

    As mercy from Us,

And as reminders for the worshipful.

    85.

    And [the prophets] Ismail and Idris and Zal-Kifl;

And each of them was among the patient!

    86.

And We admitted them into Our mercy,

For they were among the pious!

    87.

And [the prophet] Zal-Noun [Younus, Jonah],

When he left [the people to whom he was sent],

    Angry,

    And he thought that,

We had no power over him!

    And he called upon Us,

From within the darkness [of the belly of the whale],

    Saying,

    Oh Lord!

    Exalted are You!

There is no other God but You!

I was truly one of the unjust!

    88.

And We responded to his pleadings,

And We saved him from [his] despair.

    And such is how,

    We save the believers!

(The prophet Muhammad was often reminded in the Qur'an with the story of Younus Jonah.

(Younus Jonah, one of the prophets from among the people of Israel, was sent to a pagan people from among the gentiles. He preached and preached and they ignored him all the way. Not one of them believed!

(He became so angry with them, that he abandoned his mission and went away, all without first seeking permission from The Lord Who sent him. That was obviously sinful. Those who believe that prophets do not sin should take note here and elsewhere.

(He boarded a ship, and soon the sea became so stormy and the waves became as high as mountains.

According to the pagan customs of the time, the captain of the ship must cast lots to find out which of the passengers the sea wants to be thrown overboard before it calms down. They drew lots and the prophet Younus's was the one who lost. They threw him overboard and a huge whale came and swallowed him.

(In the belly of the whale, which is so huge, Jonah realized the gravity of what he has done when he deserted his duties as a prophet just because the people did not listen to him. He prayed saying, Oh Lord! There is no God but You. Exalted are You. I was one of the unjust!

(Such was the power of that prayers that God caused the whale to vomit Younus Jonah up on the sandy shore. He must have been in a very bad state having been immersed in the gastric acid of the whale, with at least his skin being chemically burned by it. God caused a pumpkin tree with its broad leaves to grow and cover him shading him from the damaging effects of the sun's rays.

(Younus was later sent to a different people to finish his job as a messenger, and they all believed.

(The prophet Muhammad was often reminded of the story of Younus Jonah, which in effect is saying to the prophet Muhammad, be patient with what they say, and become not like Jonah and desert your mission, for it is your duty to convey the message to them and it is not your duty to make them believe.)

    89.

    And Zakariya,

When he called upon His Lord [and said],

    Oh Lord!

    Leave me not,

    Lonesome [childless],

And You are the One who inherits [all]!

    90.

    And we answered his call,

And we gave him Yahia [John],

And We made good his [Zakariya's] wife for him,

    [After being barren],

    For they were [all] competing,

In the doing of pious deeds,

    And they called upon Us,

    Out of need,

    And they called upon Us,

    Out of fear,

    And unto Us,

They [humbly] submitted themselves [to Allah]!

    91.

And the one who guarded her virginity [Maryam],

    We blew into her [womb],

From Our Ruh [the archangel Gabriel],

    And We made of her,

And of her son [Isa, Jesus],

A sign for the people [of Israel]!

    92.

[O prophets, and, O followers of all the prophets!]

Truly, this is your nation [of believers],

    A one nation,

    And I am Your Lord;

    So, worship Me!

(After naming all the prophets as named above, Allah reminds us, all of us, that all these prophets were the prophets of God, sent with the very same message, believe all or believe none at all.

(This most significant Ayah tells us in no unequivocal terms that, all believers are one. The followers of Musa Moses must by necessity be followers of Isa Jesus and Muhammad.

(Monotheistic Jews, Monotheistic Christians and the followers of Muhammad are all followers of the same religion, and they are believers in the same God. They are all called by God Muslims, as that is the name given them by their father Ibrahim.

(All Believers in God are members of one nation worshipping the same Lord and obeying the same laws.)

    93.

But they [the people of the book] disputed,

    Among themselves,

    In their affairs,

    And to Us,

    Each of them will return!

    94.

And he who does pious deeds,

    While being a believer,

His endeavours will not be denied!

And We truly register all of his deeds for him!

    95.

And a return [to this world],

Is forbidden for [the people of] a town,

    That We destroyed!

    96.

And when Ya’goog and Ma’goog are released,

(Ya'goog and Ma'goog were two monstrous tribes that constantly raided their neighbours. They were walled out by Zul-qarnayn, thought to be Alexander the great, when he stopped them by joining two mountains with a huge dam.)

And when they come from every direction

(As one of the signs for the coming of The Hour.

(It is of course not going to be the same individual members of these two tribes, Ya'goog and Ma'goog, for the Qur'an stated before that no one is immortal. The early members of these two monstrous tribes could not have been alive till now.

(It is rather the evil principle that is still alive, and that is the tendency of some to be highly oppressive of others and to raid the others and unjustifiably pillage their possessions.

(The indication here is that, near the day of judgment, and before the Hour comes, the earth will be full of highly oppressive people working on the same principles as Agog and Agog, and that life on earth will become largely devoid of justice and mercy, which were enshrined by God.

(That would be the time when God would do away with the entire population of the predominantly corrupted earth society, and this world would then come to an end.

(At that time, when it comes, believers would find, as the prophet Muhammad indicated, that holding on to the tenets of their faith will become like holding on to red hot charcoal.)

    97.

And when the true promise [of The Hour],

    Draws near,

    The eyes of those,

    Who believed not,

Will be fixed in a stare!

    And when they say,

Woe to us from that [that we can see],

    [For] we truly were unaware!

    No,

    We truly were unjust!

    98.

    [O unbelievers!]

    You,

And all of what you worship beside Allah,

Will become like fodder for Jahannam!

Truly, you will go to it!

    99.

Had these [idols truly] been gods,

They would not have gone to Jahannam,

    But each of them,

    Will be there for eternity!

    100.

    And in it [Jahannam],

    They will groan,

    But they will hear not!

    101.

    Truly, those to whom,

    The best reward will go,

Will be kept away from it [Jahannam].

    102.

    And they will hear not,

    The hissing sounds of hellfire,

    And they will eternally enjoy,

What their Nafs [the self] desire!

    103.

The supreme fright [of The Hour],

    Will sadden them not,

And the angels will receive them [saying],

    This is your day,

The one that you were promised!

    104.

    On the day [of resurrection],

When We fold away the heavens,

    As if a scroll,

And it is a promise that We make,

And it is a promise that We shall fulfill,

We shall resurrect [the entire creation],

Just as We created it in the beginning!

    105.

And We truly wrote it in the Zabour

(The book sent to the prophet Dawoud David),

[That came down] after the book [the Torah],

That My pious servants shall inherit the land!

    106.

    Truly, in that,

There is a message for the worshipful!

    107.

And We truly sent you not [Oh Muhammad],

    But as mercy to humankind!

    108.

    Say (to them Oh Muhammad),

Truly, it is revealed to me,

    That Your God,

    Is One God!

So, will you [now] submit [to Him] as Muslims!

    109.

    And if they turn away,

    Say [to them Oh Muhammad],

I delivered the message [of the Qur'an] properly,

    To all of you.

    And I know not,

    If what you were promised,

    Will come [to you] soon,

Or if it will be deferred!

    110.

    He [Allah] truly knows,

    What is said openly,

    And He knows,

    What you conceal!

    111.

    And I believe that,

It [the world] is a test for you,

And [that you were given] chattels for a while!

    112.

    He [Muhammad] said,

    Oh Lord!

    Judge between us in truth!

And it is the help of Our Lord,

    The Compassionate,

    That we seek,

In what you [O unbelievers] describe!

    22.

    Surat Al Hajj

(Pilgrimage to the holy places in Makkah.)

Revealed in Madinah after Surat Al Nour save for Ayahs 52, 53, 54 &55. Seventy-eight Ayahs.

    ______________________________________

(When the earth was first created, its surface was totally covered with water. Then some of the water began to evaporate to form the clouds, some escaped inside the earth, and some remained on the landmass in either liquid or solid form.

(And as the water receded, the first landmass to appear from underneath was the place that God calls in the Qur'an, Umm Al Qura, meaning, the mother of all towns, known to us as Makkah.

(It is most likely that it was in or around that part of the world that God created Adam and Hawwa Eve, and it was nearby that the earthly paradise existed, namely Adan or Eden.

(Following the expulsion of Adam and Hawwa Eve from the earthly paradise because of their disobedience, in their shame they lost each other.

(Adam repented to God and therefore was forgiven. Iblis or Satan did not repent, and vowed to continue his war against man just to prove that God was wrong to side-step him and appoint Adam as God's vicegerent and ruler on earth and not Iblis.

(God led Adam and Eve to each other and forgave them at the place known now as 'Jabal Al Rahmah' or the mountain of mercy on the mountain of Arafat.

(Standing on Arafat, on the same day of the same month that God forgave Adam and Hawwa Eve is the focal point of Hajj, where God is saying to us, repent like your father Adam and mother Hawwa did, and I will forgive you all your sins just as I forgave them. By the grace of God, a person returns home from Arafat sinless as the day he was born.

(In nearby Makkah, God sent Angels to build a house of worship for Adam and Hawwa to worship in. Unlike how it looks now, it was a roughly rectangular building, which one can trace today to the perimeters of the Kaabah, but including with that is what is now known to us as 'Hij’r Ismail,' which niches out from one side in a semi-arc.

(The holy house was enough for Adam and Hawwa and some of their children to worship in, but as the number of worshippers grew, now counting as thirteen thousand million people worldwide, a quarter of those who live on earth, the entire perimeter of the house has become part of that holy house at Makkah, and the house itself, rather than the niche in it now called 'Hij’r Ismail', became the direction towards which believers pray in their daily prayers.

(With the passage of time after Adam, the Kaabah was in ruins. The entire land of Arabia was once lush and full of forests, as is evident from the existence of oil, and has gradually become an arid desert, perhaps due to a climatic change, which incidentally is going to be reversed as we approach the Hour or the end of the world.

(The house of God was filled with idols or false gods that pagans placed there.

(Many centuries later, God decided that Ibrahim, the friend of God, should be sent to Makkah, with his son Ismail, and He entrusted them both to rebuild the Kaabah on the original foundations.

(Having rebuilt it in an area where, until then, no one had any reason to pass by, for it had no water before the well of Zamzam was exploded under the feet of the infant Ismail, right beside the holy site, God ordered Ibrahim to start calling people to come to visit the House of God.

(Imagine a man, Ibrahim, calling people to come to him, in an arid and deserted place where there were no people at all to be seen, and then imagine people gradually appearing to answer his call and come to him from all directions and from far away.

(God asked Ibrahim to call for Hajj, and the rest was to be for Him. For He made believers, who still existed in the world at that time, hear the call, and yearn so much to visit God in His earthly holy house at Makkah. People came for pilgrimage, riding on camels that were much weakened by the length of the travel distance, as God made them all hear that call of Ibrahim.

(God sent His messages and His messengers, one after the other, to the early Children of Israel, the sons and daughters of Ibrahim through his second son Is'haq Isaac.

(The 'Chosen People,' the Children of Israel, were chosen by God to carry His light, God's law, the Torah, to the world. However, instead of carrying the light to others as they were commanded to do, they kept it for themselves, hoping to gain with that some distinction above non-Jews, whom they called 'Al Ommi'yeen,' which means the ignorant.

(God sent a final messenger to the Children of Israel, namely, the Messiah Isa Jesus. The Messiah was supported by the Archangel Gabriel and therefore was not 'killable'.

(The leaders of the Jews of that time tried very hard to kill him, if only to prove that he was not The Messiah. I believe that, by saying that they killed the Messiah, it is as if they were saying that Isa Jesus was not the true Messiah but some sort of a false prophet.

(The person of Isa Jesus was miraculously substituted for them by the person of Judas the Iscariot, the one who betrayed his master 'with a kiss'. It was Judas the Iscariot who was crucified. Three days later, and as he told them earlier, Isa Jesus reappeared to his followers. He was raised as they looked into the third heaven.

The duties of Isa Jesus were two folds. The first was to tell the children of Israel to repent their sins and God will blot out all of their sins.

(The second duty was to tell them to prepare the way for the coming of Muhammad, the Messenger of God, who was mentioned by name in the Bible.

(The coming of the Messiah was a prelude to the change that was to come, the transfer of messages from Jerusalem, God's second holy city, to God's first house at Makkah, and the revival of the religion of God that Ibrahim gave it the name Islam, which God took upon Himself to help it to triumph over all the forces that opposed it.

(It was indeed a massive change in the history of the world; the coming of Muhammad, the promised Messenger of Allah whom God expected all peoples to believe in and to follow as the light bearer to paradise.

(The rebuilding of the Kaabah by Ibrahim and his first son Ismail was, as it turned out, a preparation for the change of message and of messengers that culminated in the coming of Muhammad The messenger of God, son of Ibrahim through Ismail, who was sent as a messenger to the entire world, including the Children of Israel, not as before, when all the messengers, including Isa Jesus, were sent only to the Children of Israel to get them to correct their ways.

(Today, as is evident in the time of Hajj, the holy house is honoured by the pilgrimage of several millions of believers to it every year, in response to that one call that Ibrahim made in the most unlikely of situations.)

    In The name of Allah,

    The most Compassionate,

    The most merciful.

    1.

    O people,

    Fear Your Lord,

For the quivers of the Hour,

    Are so terrible!

    2.

    When they see it,

    Every nursing mother,

    Shall attend no more,

To the baby that she is nursing,

    And every pregnant woman,

Shall lose what she is carrying!

And you will see the people looking,

    As if they are drunk,

Even though, they will not be drunk!

    But, Your Lord’s torments,

    Are so severe.

    3.

    There are some,

    Who would argue about Allah,

    Without knowledge,

    And they would follow,

    Every rebellious demon!

    4.

    It is written that he,

    Who befriends the devil,

    Will be lead by him,

    To the torments of hell!

    5.

    O people,

    If you are in doubt,

    About the resurrection;

    Let Us explain,

That We truly created you from dust,

Then We created you from emitted secretions,

Then from an Alaqah [a mass that clings],

    Then from Mud'ghah

(A Mud'ghah is a collection of cells and tissues appearing as if a chewed up mass, which is a description of how an embryo looks at one stage of its development),

Both differentiated [into organs] and undifferentiated!

And this [is said] to make it clear to you

    [That Allah is The Creator!]

And We let settle in the wombs,

    What We please,

    For an appointed term,

Then We move you out of the wombs as infants,

Then you attain to your strongest phase [youth],

And some of you will die [young],

    And some will be deferred,

To the most feeble phase [of old age],

    When they learn nothing,

    Beyond what they learned!

And you can see the earth,

    Looking dead,

But, when We send down rain [upon it],

    It shakes and grows,

    And it produces delightful pairs,

    Of every plant!

    6.

That is because Allah is The Truth,

And that He resurrects the dead,

And that He has power over all things!

    7.

    And that,

    The Hour will undoubtedly come,

And that Allah will resurrect the ones,

    Who are in the graves!

    8.

    And there is he,

    Among the people,

    Who will argue about Allah,

    Without knowledge or guidance,

    Or an enlightening book!

    9.

    Twisting his head,

    To mislead people,

    Away from Allah!

    To him, there shall be,

    Disgrace in this world,

    And in the hereafter,

    We shall make him taste,

    The torments of the burning!

    10.

That is for what his hands presented him,

And, truly, Allah is never unjust to the slaves!

    11.

And, there is the one among the people,

    Who would worship Allah,

    But, on an edge;

If something good comes to him,

    He becomes satisfied,

But if he is tempted [to renounce his faith],

He would turn back on his heels!
