About this ebook
Lilly tries to blend in and be normal but just doesn't have any luck. She is constantly in the shadow of gossip about her family which her hometown just won't allow to rest. Old women tell stories about her grandmother and the things that she could do. Her father even had to leave town to find the space he needed to grow into the man that he became.
Things look to have taken a turn for the better when the guy of her dreams asks her out but Lilly is sadly mistaken. Not only is her date ruined but a supernatural force has taken an interest in her and she will have to fight just to save herself. A part time job at Dairy Queen and an honors diploma just don't prepare you for a future like this. What in the world is the average high school graduate supposed to do when faced by something that goes bump in the night?

I am a computer programmer and father who has finally gotten motivated and started writing. I live on the family farm with one wife, four kids and more animals than can be listed in a reasonable amount of space. I have just finished my first novella and am starting on the second. Hopefully, I can remember to update this Bio every time those change

Chapter 1
I have always hated looking into mirrors. I realize that some people really get into it. Some girls even spend hours in front of a mirror, but I just can't. Every time I stand in front of a mirror I see all the things that I have heard everyone saying about me for years.
I see my hair and all the waves in it and I think about all of the times that the cheerleaders said it made me look like Medusa. I see my eyes, normal in shape and a deep, dark blue and I think about all the people that have said my eyes remind them of my mother; the woman that left me and my father just before I turned ten. This is what I always see in the mirror and that is only the small mirror on the vanity. God forbid I stand in front of the full length mirror that Dad had put on the bathroom door.
That is when I got to see the full view. I saw my hair wet and hanging down as straight as I could ever get it. I saw my hips and the flat stomach that should have had the local boys drooling but just doesn't around here. I saw my chest, good grief, everyone sees my chest. Usually, before they see me. You would think that being eighteen years old with a tight body and a large chest I would need to beat the boys back with a stick, but I didn’t.
Part of that is due to my family history. A lot of older women in this town still had mean things to say about my grandmother and she wasn’t even alive to hear them anymore. Part of that is due to how my dad named me. My name is Lily. My mom couldn’t deliver me so the doctors had to knock her out and do a caesarian. That meant that she was unconscious when my dad filled out the form with my name. He decided to name me like his mother had been named, after a flower. That really wouldn’t be all that bad but my last name is a color. I was given hell by other kids in elementary school and even heard the same old jokes once in a while in high school. You would think that those losers would get some new material but they never did. Lily Andromeda White was just an easy target. Most of the other kids were stupid and beyond picking on me, they hadn’t paid me a lot of attention.
That changed today and that is why I was standing in front of the mirror. I had a date with Tom Seeley, the man who had a full ride football scholarship to the U of M. Tom Seeley, who was prom king, homecoming king and voted most likely to succeed. Tom Seeley, the owner of the most defined six-pack in our po-dunk little school and the single most common visitor to my imaginary love life for the last two years.
So I am standing naked in front of the mirror. My stomach is in knots, my head is fuzzy and I think I may already be sweating a little. I had two hours until my date and no idea what to wear or how to do my hair and makeup. I could really use a best friend right now. Luckily for me I called her an hour ago and she should be here any minute.
I was thinking of calling her again when I heard someone coming up the stairs. So I walked over to the door, threw it open and said, Well, it is about time young lady!
Jessica is my best friend; a short and spunky girl with long straight black hair and an all year tan that I had always been totally jealous of. Her hair and skin give her an exotic quality that makes people who don’t know her think that her family probably comes from India. Her family hasn’t lived in town for that long but they have lived in Michigan and Northern Indiana for generations so she is actually about as exotic as a hot dog. She is a pretty girl with a big heart and a big smile. She also has a big problem with nudity. Anytime we are in gym or changing after a sleep over she always turns her head. She hides in the bathroom and doesn’t come out or share the mirror until she is completely ready. My dad makes jokes about her being related to Michael Jackson since neither one has ever been seen in public without their make up on. This means that my standing in the doorway totally naked has her blushing, stammering and almost falling as she tries to turn her head while still coming into the room to drop her oversized gym bag on the floor.
Will you put some damned cloths on?
Not until you help me pick them out.
Then how about you put on the robe I gave you for your birthday.
Jess says as she walks over to the closet and takes the little silk robe off of the hook on the door. She is staring at the door as she holds it back over her shoulder to me. What would you do if your dad walked in right now?
My mom always made a big deal about not being seen naked but my dad didn’t. He said that Grandma had told him it was how we were made and that there wasn’t anything wrong with it. Now, that didn’t mean that he was a nudist or anything. He usually wore cloths and it wasn’t like he went around flashing people. My dad just didn’t worry about being naked, especially not in our own house.
