Dean Wesley Smith
Considered one of the most prolific writers working in modern fiction, USA Today bestselling writer Dean Wesley Smith published far more than a hundred novels in forty years, and hundreds of short stories across many genres. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Slightly strange story that kept my interest to the end. Didn't leave me completely satisfied it was finished was why the 4 stars. But an interesting read, drew me into the story's world right away.

Chapter One
I nursed the scotch-rocks like it was the last drink I was ever going to have instead of just the first for the night, twirling the glass and the golden liquid on its paper napkin like a kid’s toy. More than likely, it was going to be the drink I remembered most in a long line of drinks, followed by picking up some blonde — they were always blondes — and taking her back to my big house in my Porsche for some fast, sloppy sex and then uncomfortable good-byes.
Around me, the party atmosphere of the Danny’s Crib Lounge,
combined with the music from too many speakers, kept the noise level just under that of a jet taking off. I had been lucky tonight to find a place at the bar. Usually I ended up standing, drink in hand, pretending to actually talk to someone I mostly couldn’t hear.
But tonight was special. That’s what my six co-workers from the legal department had told me. I had closed negotiations on one of the company’s biggest deals today, opening up a wildlife refuge for my company’s oil rigs to go in and drill. Tomorrow, when the news got out, our stock would shoot up, the left-wing environmentalists would cry, I would get a bonus, and then I would go back to work on the next big deal.
But tonight I got to celebrate.
