Loved this book. It reminds me of the Encyclopedia Brown stories. Some of these stories I was able to figure out but others had me stumped. Thank heavens the author gives you the answers at the end of each story!

Introduction

Have you met Kendall and Jamie Broderick? If not, let me introduce them to you.

Jamie is the younger of the brother and sister team. She loves animals and babies, and especially animal babies. And of course, she loves solving mysteries.

Jamie will often jump into things. She doesn’t always think through what might happen when she does. She knows her older brother will be there to protect her and help her out.

Sometimes Jamie can get angry very quickly. Adults say that she wears her heart on her sleeve. That means she will often show her feelings instead of hide them. It is easy to tell when Jamie is happy, sad, angry, or anything else.

Jamie likes playing soccer and is on a team.

Kendall is Jamie’s older brother. He likes playing the older brother role, and often likes to take care of his sister. Sometimes Jamie thinks he is too protective, and she wishes he would let her do more.

Kendall loves learning and is often one of the smartest students in his class. He doesn’t like to show it though, and he sometimes hides how smart he is. He especially likes his science and history classes.

Kendall is the quieter of the two, and often takes time to think about things before acting. Sometimes he thinks too much, which can make Jamie get really angry.

Kendall likes to play baseball. He plays second base and is a pretty good hitter. He also plays American football with friends, but is not on a team.

James and Anna Broderick are Kendall and Jamie’s parents. Mr. Broderick teaches history at the local college. He is also on the Board of Directors for the local historical society. The board helps to run the society. The members of the group try to learn more about local history and share it with others.

Mr. Broderick likes to solve mysteries that are about historical things and people sometimes ask him to help solve their historical cases.

Mrs. Broderick is a scientist. She works for a local company helping them discover new ways to treat illness.

When she is not at work, she is often very active. She likes to take the family camping. She also helps out at the local
