    Foreword

    What gives ME the right?

The thing women have yet to learn is nobody gives you power. You just take it.~Roseanne Barr.

As a professional coach I encounter many, many women, and I always find myself lending advice about situations and issues that they face daily. As I work to coach them on business, inevitably there comes a point, sometimes very quickly, where business and personal meet. It is at that point that I find myself giving advice on both.

Let’s face it. As women our emotions guide us. More than likely if I am having problems at home, they impact my work. The faster I get over my problems at home, the better my work becomes. We carry our problems everywhere we go like a purse.

In my professional capacity I advise professionals on how to improve their relationships, performance, and persona. Naturally personal aspirations and challenges become a part of that conversation.

In short I have years and years of providing advice to women just like you. Old or young, it doesn’t matter. It must be something in my eyes that says Ask me!, and they do.

When it comes to me and my girlfriends, I am most often the one that has the most to say, right, wrong, or indifferent about how they should handle a particular situation.

Because I love to write, I thought to myself, let me get this on paper. We all need help, regardless of our station in life, or at least a different perspective on how to handle things.

Some of this you may know already. When you know better, you do better (sometimes! *smile*). Some of this may be a first for you. As the world changes, those life lessons that we have taken for granted have begun to be lost in translation… and in some cases, just lost.

This is an attempt to share some of what I was taught by Big Mama, my mama, my aunts, and a series of friends and acquaintances throughout the years. Share this book with your best friends, with your daughters and your sisters.

Donate a copy of this book to the library for the lost girl who doesn’t have the support system she may need to be successful in this big, cold world. Start a Girl! Power group and make sure you and your crew stay grounded.

Most importantly, use this book yourself, even if you spend your head nodding every chapter, saying to yourself, Dee is Crazy, or shaking your head and saying, She is wrong for that. Sometimes my information may not be just the right thing for you, and that is fine.

With that being said, when you do finish this book, I challenge you to do something! If you feel the advice I am giving is not right for you, then I challenge you to figure out what is the right thing for. My feelings won’t be hurt that you didn’t take my advice (well slightly, but I will heal).

My motive behind this book is simple. In order for the world to be successful, we as women must be successful. Happiness for women is a must. We must love ourselves unconditionally. Girl! Power is what ensures the success of the Human Race. Without Girl! Power there is no future. As your power grows, so does the power of the women around
