So, what are you saying? You want to break up with me? Is that it? Carla couldn’t believe what her boyfriend was telling her after nearly four years together.

I’m sorry, Danny said, looking at the ground as he shuffled his feet. This isn’t exactly what I wanted to happen, but it did and now I need to make a choice. He shrugged, not knowing what else to do.

Carla couldn’t believe that after all this time he wanted to throw their relationship away for some girl he met less than a week ago. Fine! she blurted, in a raging fury now. If you think you’ll be happier with her, then you go ahead and do whatever you want, but don’t come running back to me .... Ever! She turned and started to walk away before he could respond. After several quick steps, she spun back toward him. And don’t think you’re ever going to see your child, because you won’t! she shouted.

Danny had confronted her about two blocks from there as she was headed home and now she was in a state of uproar.

A-a-a-h! she screamed in frustration. Why, why, why? she yelled at the ceiling as she stomped up the stairs to her bedroom. Her parents shouldn’t be home from work yet, so she wasn’t concerned about them hearing her outburst. Why does this have to happen to me? Why can’t I have a happy life? she continued ranting as she reached the upstairs hallway and headed to her room.

Closing her door quickly and loudly, Carla kicked off her shoes, dropped the keys and purse on the dresser and fell backwards on the bed, beating the mattress with her fists. She had wanted to hit Danny like this, but was afraid
