About this ebook

Four stories about the warrior Murk and his encounters with orcs and dinosaurs, fairies and the burning man, the dwarves and their dark mines, mermaids and an ancient pool of knowledge, and so much more.

This collection contains:

# Left Behind (Quest #1)
Murk has been left behind by A-Squad in the hell known as the Madlands. Tied to a pole with a burning pile of wood at his feet, the young warrior watches on as the fish-like Hercult dance vigorously to the beat of his final day in the land of the living. However, the Madlands are unpredictable. A giant carversaur – mightiest of monsters – and the orc champion, Oglash have plans to ruin Murk's death. Find out how within.

# The Flaming Man (Quest #2)
A man completely on fire rushes into Murk’s little camp in the swamp he just can’t seem to leave. Once cooled down this man informs him that a certain fairy has been toasted and a spell has been cast that could well lead to Murk and everyone else within the swamp being stuck in it forever. Giants, imps, hordes of fairies and more combine to make this a truly difficult escape.

# The Dark Mines (Quest #3)
Murk's shortcut doesn't work out as planned. Trapped by the dark dwarves, he finds himself on the way to becoming their lunch (Murk kebab anyone?). With no means of escape and a short trip to the dark dwarves' stomachs, Murk needs to find a way out of this soon. Can he escape this tricky situation and what mysteries await in the caves of the dark dwarves?

# Water Spirits (Quest #4)
A new challenge presents itself in Murk's quest to escape the Madlands. With the help of the young mage/mermaid Kate, he must find the Pool of Knowing and the Mirror of Truth for the purpose of learning how he can escape the torturous Madlands. A great secret will be revealed within this short story that will change the direction of Murk's quest.

Murk felt the flames lightly lick his skin. Fishlike forms and shadowy black figures danced around him in and out of the light cast by the fire burning under the pole he had been carefully strapped to.

This had all happened because his damned squad had called him a useless lazy idiot and left him in the jungles of this hellish land to be captured (admittedly he was lazy, but not an idiot, disregarding recent failures).

The heat made him shuffle on the pole uncomfortably. Being bone scared and having already let loose a shower from his own bladder, he was feeling a little worried, to say the least, about how this was going to turn out.

The chanting stopped. A larger fish thing stepped out of the crowd of half shadows. It stood in front of him waving a twig and pointing to him vigorously as it gave what appeared to be his final parting words.

He tensed his muscles for the 1000th time. The bonds were well in place. He could feel fire eating away at his toes. Soon the wood would catch or they would add more fuel to the flames. He was a goner and he knew it.

ROAR. The sound sent shivers of fear through his soul. The fish things and the odd shadows ran for it. Murk would have too, but he was tied to a burning beacon that was leading what he knew would be the end of his life his way.

Murk started to struggle. The ropes were tight, but maybe he could move them a little and escape. One of the passing creatures threw a torch onto the fire as it dashed by. Murk was almost certain he had seen a smirk on its fishy features.

The roaring was getting closer. The dinosaur-like monster that the world knew as a Carversaur would not be long it coming.

The darkness was a ring of fear that could not be broken by his mortal eyes. He could hear the roaring and the trees around him snapping as something big made its way through the forest to where he stood warmly toasting away – much like a marshmallow on a stick hung over a fire.

The monstrous beast broke through the clearing’s edge. It flew forward with ridiculous speed and came to a halt only hand spans away from Murk.

Its big nostrils flared as it bent low to take in the aroma of cooking human. Murk shied away. It was bigger than he thought it would be. He had only really heard the sounds of these beasts in the night before and being this close and personal with one gave Murk a whole new edge to his understanding of exactly how terrifying they were.

The thing stood five times his height and had to bend low to reach him. It drew back its head as Murk closed his eyes instinctively.

He tasted the flavor of its mouth as the beast’s great maw raced down towards him. It was a powerful motion that pushed air downwards and extinguished the flames below.

Crack. His eyes shot open. He was in the air – floating around from left to right with mighty speed. His eyes took in the situation all too easily. He was stuck in the damn thing’s mouth! It had gotten the pole he was strapped to caught just behind the long and fearsome teeth that decorated the front of its maw and was now trying to loose the obstruction.

    Crack. The wood above
