    Mike Oldham walked out of the Hemming Paint Store carrying two gallons of exterior white. He was so upset he couldn't think straight. He turned toward the store, wanted to throw the paint cans through the large windows. Suddenly the store lights went off and he was in darkness. Big wet rain drops started falling.

    Dammit. Dammit to hell.

    In his pocket he felt his cellphone ringing.

    He opened the trunk of his sedan and wanted to throw the gallon cans inside, but he could only shove them in the little space available. The old Crown Vic groaned under the added weight. Rain splashed the trunk.

    The paint company had told him they would buy
