Spending a rare day off on horseback probably wasn’t the best idea, but she’d been looking forward to a solitary afternoon in the meadow on the far south edge of the Bradley Equine Ranch property for weeks. Finally the finicky Montana spring weather and her schedule agreed.

      The weather was still crisp, but warm enough to go without a jacket. Wildflowers were beginning to bloom, and the sage released its perfume beneath her mare Jessup’s hooves.
