DAY 1
GRASPING THE GOOD NEWS
1 Peter 3:18 • 2 Corinthians 5:21
God brought into being all created things: the oceans and dry land, the sun, moon and stars, the animals. It was (and is) all good, all with God’s imprint. Then He made humans, not just with His imprint, but in His very image (Genesis 1:27, 31). Humans weren’t just good. God said we were very good! In fact, the Hebrew idiom used in Genesis 1:31 is tauv maude, which means God was giddy, beside Himself with joy and excitement!
Here were created beings God would enjoy relating to. Genesis 3:8 even says He visited with them daily in the cool of the afternoon.
We humans are made to be in relationship with God, the Source of Life.
But like the first humans, we think there must be more to life than whatever God is allowing us to experience. In our hearts, we turn away from God. We want to be the god of our life. So we choose to break trust with God and go our own way. The Bible calls this sin.
Because of our sin, our relationship with God is poisoned. We are alienated from Him. We experience death—literal death and spiritual death. And there is absolutely nothing we can do to fix, heal, or overcome sin and its consequences. But, what we couldn’t do ourselves, God did for us. He sent His Son, Jesus.
In death on the cross, Jesus didn’t just forgive our sin or grant us a pardon from its full consequence; He actually bore our sin. He became sin. In this Great Exchange, Jesus’ righteousness was imparted to us: and our sin, with all the guilt, shame, and self- condemnation that accompanies it, was transferred to Jesus. It was as if the Father had a giant sponge and simultaneously absorbed out of every one of us all of our sin and then squeezed it out over Jesus on the cross. In becoming our substitute, Jesus experienced the alienation and death we deserved for our sin.
Becoming a follower of Jesus is as simple as ABC. A is Admitting you have sought life apart from God, meaning you are a sinner. B is Believing that Jesus, who was sinless, died in your place…taking your sin upon Himself, and transferring to you His Righteousness.
And C is Committing your life to Jesus, by asking Him to come live in your heart, and trusting your life to Him. You’ve become a follower of Jesus.
Good News, indeed!

is and means for you; and to learn how you trust your heart and life to Jesus!

DAY 2
SO, NOW YOU’RE A CHRISTIAN
Colossians 1:27 • John 17:3 • John 15:4-5
So often Christianity is presented as a religion—a set of beliefs to adopt and rules and commands to obey. No, being a Christian is having a relationship with the living Lord Jesus Christ.
Certainly, there are things to believe and a way God wants you to live, but you don’t do these things in order to
be a Christian. Rather, they are because of
the reality that you have a relationship with Jesus. You’ve received His Love; you’ve invited Him to live in your heart; you’ve given Him your life (in other words, you’re trusting Him with it).
You’re not a Christian because you live in America, or because you believe there is a God, or because your parents are Christians. You’re a Christian because of your decision to give all that you know of yourself to all that you know of God. A Christian acknowledges they’ve lived their life on their own, apart from God, with themselves at the center, and then turns toward God, seeking life with Him. The word found in the Bible for this turning to God is repentance
(from the Greek, metanoia, which means heading one direction and doing a 180-degree turn to head the opposite direction).
Christians are not people who live their lives by Christian principles; rather, Christians have come to know Jesus’ love, and live their lives
