The History of the Piano
Early Origins
The earliest roots of the modern day piano are found in the clavichord and harpsichord, both of which are stringed instruments that resemble a piano in basic shape. The difference between the modern piano and its early predecessors, however, lies in the mechanism used to produce sound from the strings deep within the instrument. Both clavichords and harpsichords rely on a plucking mechanism, where the string is plucked by a small metal hook to cause a vibration, and hence produce
