Hoover Building - Top Secret Classroom #3

As Special Agent Craig Spencer concluded his remarks to the counter-intelligence class, Marc Roland walked in quietly at the back of the room, politely smiling - suitcase in hand. Craig did not acknowledge Marc’s entrance as he answered the last few questions from the students.

Marc made his way down to the front of the room, which served to scatter the remaining students. Only after they were alone did Marc speak.

You aren’t going to like this.

Why, what arm pit are we going off to now? asked Craig.

West coast, your favorite, of course, I know how much you love the Los Angeles office.

Shit, said Craig, what is it this time?

A nuclear trigger, said Marc, looking at Craig for a reaction.

    You’re not kidding are you?

    Nope.

"How long has it been missing?

Marc looked at his Bulova watch as they exited the Top Secret Classroom, Seventeen hours.

    We have a ride?

    The Bureau steed is outside.

You have the DOE (Department of Energy) report with you?

    Of course, right here.

    Who else is coming?

We’re it buddy. The Director’s office only copied us, said Marc, leading Craig to the waiting car.

Not much of a cavalry are we? said Craig, the rhetorical question was not lost on Marc who had been at Craig’s side on cases like this for over a decade.

So what does this trigger look like, how big is it? asked Craig as he scanned the message from the Director.

Think small, very small. Everything on a nuclear weapon is miniaturized.

That doesn’t help me Marc. What’s it actually look like?

    It’s classified.

Don’t screw with me! Do you know how dumb that sounds? whispered Craig mindful of nearby passengers.

DOE won’t tell us till they know we are cleared for weird.

But they want us to investigate it?

Well, they want the FBI to investigate it, said Marc, resolved there was not much they could do till they landed.

"They want us to investigate it but won’t show it to us?

"Look, all I know is the Director wants us to look into
