Insomnia sat in the park enjoying the steroid, ecstasy mix. It was a rosy summer day and the sun was peeking out from a few low hanging clouds. A bird was chirping and Jenny curled up against him snoozing lightly under the effects of some rather heavy roofies on the big picnic blanket they had spread out under them. So far it had been the ideal drug addicts’ picnic.

Insomnia brought his hand up to his head and rubbed the irritated spot. A few weeks ago, he had gotten involved with the mafia and survived a brutal series of events. Since the day that he had gotten out of hospital, he had been suffering from dizzy spells and the occasional headache. He had found that the only way to settle it down was to take some kind of drugs. This was just another sign that he needed to refill the tank

He ruffled around in his pockets. He didn’t have any ecstasy tabs left. His head started to burn a little. Maybe his brain was finally giving out on him. It wouldn’t surprise him in the least.

Insomnia reached into the small picnic basket that they had brought to the small park on the outer edges of the city, he pulled out the bottle of pills. These were his 5 star golden mix supplied by the finest dealer in town. A few of these should calm the waves of pain rotating through his head from back to front.

He was twisting off the top when his phone beeped. He dropped two pills on the ground and chuckled, which to choose the green or the red? He scooped them up and put them in the cap. He wasn’t quite ready to choose just yet.

He flipped open his phone and opened his message box.

Larry? What does that punk want? he murmured.

The message read, Watch the video on this website. You’re in trouble.

That was ominous. Larry was one of the ones that assaulted the mob boss’s mansion with him. His stomach started to gurgle a little as an uneasy feeling slowly slid up through his core. What if the mafia had figured out it was him? Would they come after him now?

Insomnia looked back to the phone. The little red link at the bottom of the message flickered at him.

He was about to bring his finger down to push the button when there was a squealing sound in the distance.

He looked up and noticed a strange black van speeding through the parking lot swerving among the parked cars. It had a strange clown insignia on the side.

The vehicle skidded to a halt on the grass. Insomnia watched in cautiously, not wanting to make the people inside aware of his presence.

Loud sideshow music played from inside the van. Maybe the people were just here to enjoy the park? Boy racers maybe?

The door slid open on the side. Four men hoped out of the back.

Insomnia registered three things. First, they were all dressed up as clowns. Second, they were holding baseball bats. Third, they were looking straight at him.

He took this as a sign that they were either here to play baseball and thought he might be a good addition to the team, or that they were going to play baseball with his head. Considering the likeliness of the first, Insomnia decided he better start running.

The men pointed at him and started sprinting his way. Insomnia reached down to Jen’s shoulder and shook it. She groaned, but didn’t wake up. She was firmly asleep.

He looked back at the men. They were only a 100 meters away. He realized that today was a day of choices. He wasn’t keen to leave Jenny here, but the clowns were fixated on him like the SWAT team on a freshly graduated cop killer.

He surged to his feet. There was something that he needed to confirm. He rushed a few meters to the side of their little picnic set up and paused. The men ignored Jenny and kept closing in on him. That was all the confirmation that he needed. They were after him.

Insomnia turned and ran into the large field that backed the parking lot. People were turning from their activities in the park to stare at the strange sight of him being chased by four men fully dressed up as clowns. It wasn’t the sort of thing that you saw every day.

Turning into the wider reaches of the park, Insomnia dashed madly across the grass. He didn’t have any idea where he was going, but experience had taught him that when someone wants to hurt you it is always better to get on the move right from the beginning.

The clowns howled behind him. One of them, with a red top hat and a malicious grin, started screaming at him. The others soon let loose as well.

We are going to rape you, mother fucker, one yelled between curse words.

Insomnia glanced back. They weren’t just here to beat him senseless or kill him? They wanted to rape him as well? What the heck were these guys thinking?

Insomnia jumped through the middle of a young couple flaunting the anti-drinking campaign and drinking champagne while enjoying the fresh air and a little homemade food with their little dog, which was jumping around among them looking expectant as its owners ate above it.

Insomnia ignored their screams as he ran by.

The dog started howling behind him. He looked back to see one of the clowns holding the dog up above his head as the couple gave chase.

The clown grinned at him and threw the dog forward at Insomnia. He cried out as fluffy mutt hit uncombed hair. The dog bit him a few times as it fell to the ground.

He could hear the clowns cackling behind him as they kept up the chase.

The pursued and pursuers came into sight of the pathway that lead into the city golf course. The council had created this public course a few years ago. Insomnia didn’t play golf, but there was a police box on the far side. That made a good target in this situation in his opinion.

Something loud and angry roared in his ears from behind. He looked back.

    Holy fuck!

The clowns were back in their van. One of the clowns must have gone back to get it. He could see the clowns in the front seats. His heart started to beat a little faster when he saw them swinging what looked to be large colorful dildos between grinning and obscene gestures. This was getting madder by the minute.

He sprinted towards the fence that surrounded the golf course. It
