About this ebook

The theme and purpose of the author are so much greater than just its qualification that the reader, whoever, will be interested to learn about the world of the fascinating mind/body interaction, a revolutionary tendency in the scientific and practical functions. Over time, scientific investigations and practical experience by himself, the writer showed his profound conviction that we are a perfect machine where everything must be in harmony, the mental, the physical and psychic organism.
Ninety years old, having been through adversity and a troubled life, escaping from a Nazi Germany, painful separation from his parents still a teenager, facing his wife ́s cancer and his own, Pablo Mainzer succeeded to recuperate his emotional balance through the practice of Meditation.
All this shows, a non-professional yes, but with due authority of somebody who learned in a hard but realistic way, now wanting to divulge his conviction of the mind power over the body and the effect of immunological capacity, as well as of the great benefits when practicing Meditation.
It shows the intention of the writer, a layman, to have the public in general participating in the knowledge of this almost revolutionary science, now starting increasingly to be considered and used by famous Universities, medical institutions and physicians and which, in the long run, might benefit the quality of life of all of us.
Certainly, after reading “The Fascinating Mind/Body Medicine” one will have reflections over the way we are directly or indirectly promoting or not our mental and physical health, and thank the author for such a selfless collaboration!

The Fascinating Mind-Body Medicine - Pablo Luis Mainzer

    Introduction

The reader can with all his right ask himself, (in this case, me, just a business executive), is daring to write a scientific work… based on what?

All began some morning when, still a boy 8 years old, not wanting to go to school, decided to pretend being sick, and just like a real artist simulated having pains in the throat and body. My Mom found me entirely covered and sweating in bed. Taking my fever, she read over 38°C to my surprise and even consternation. After that, I thought I was born a person with special powers; however I could only repeat this feat once more when I was not prepared for the mathematic examination.

Once, already grown up, I commented this episode with my parents, but they simply did not believe me.

    Living with the Theme

    The Mind´s Influence

    First Case

Early 1936, 16 years old and of Jewish descent, I had to fly from Nazi Germany, landing in a poorhouse in the interior of Argentina. A few days after arriving, I suffered a serious dysentery, gastric pains, vomiting and fever. Somehow, a German doctor who gently took care of me, concluded that I had a gastric ailment, aggravated by evident anxiety and anguish, being far away from home, alone, abandoned.

In spite of being cured, prevailed my sadness and nostalgia, catching cold with unusual frequency and loss of weigh. Over time, my spiritual condition became normal again and – coincidence or not – and so did my good health.

    Second Case

The year 1939, the 2. World War had already begun, when my parents intended to leave urgently Nazi Germany to exit to Argentina, were we, their children lived. However, my father was in a precarious health with serious heart problems, and the doctor alerted that he wouldn’t survive the long taking odyssey in a ship, bypassing the dangerous scenes of war at sea. But my father decided peremptorily to take the trip, since his wish to meet again the children after the painful separation of four years, was stronger than any hindrance. Besides he preferred to die on board than at the hands of the Nazis. He arrived alive in Buenos Aires.

    Third Case

At the year 1980, after longer than 25 years of a solid marriage, my wife was diagnosed with a breast cancer and even after a mastectomy and collateral treatments she had a bad prognostic condition.

In spite of outliving more than three years (case to be commented later), the trauma of her decease made me suffer a persistent state of anxiety and depression. Shortly thereafter, a malign melanoma at the thumb of my right food had been diagnosed, a cancer of worst prognostic, with the only known therapy to amputate the thumb in this case.

Over time, I started to practice Meditation resulting in the recuperation of my spiritual balance and health – prevailing up to date, more than twenty years later!

    Fourth Case

Since the detection of cancer and amputation of my wife´s breast I became to such an extent oppressed, that I wouldn’t talk to anybody, and worth yet, not even finding the right words of comfort to Ellen. Until one day, her best friend, Annie, called my attention Pablo, the patient seems to be you! How could she count on your necessary support to cope with this grave situation and recuperate her usual courage?

This insinuating and opportune alert helped me to return to reality. Next day, joining her with the accustomed Whisky of 6:00 pm, I led a frank conversation over her disease. Essentially, I manifested my firm decision to fight together to control her cancer by every possible means.

With an expression of surprise and alleviation on her face and a tone of evident animation, Ellen said that she decided to face up to and to combat her disease under any circumstances, and insisted to participate in any conversation with her doctors .And so it was!

My wife was a person of a firm, decided and pragmatic character. Whereas the diagnosis of her cancer showed little hope for much life prolongation, she confronted with courage her disease up to the end, after surviving almost four years with a more than reasonable quality of life, to the surprise of her physicians

    Fifth Case

My brother, Ernesto, suffered an insuperable marriage, being persistently humiliated and put down by his wife to such an extent that he got converted into an human being lacking personality, self-esteem, being depressed and mostly sad.

At the same time – most probably as a consequence – he suffered a malign melanoma, a cancer of critical prognosis and thereafter, a metastasis invading the carotid. Ernesto confronted his serious disease with confidence and faith in his cure, and after two operations and several years later, he was declared cured.

He started to practice yoga and over time recuperated his lost self-esteem, what enabled him to take two decisions never dared before. He divorced his wife and resigned his position hold over twenty years in the same company. Next, attending a long standing ambition, he studied medicine with the specialty of psychotherapy for patients of cancer.

His longevity and good health were responsible for his well
