Ebooks and New Writers - A route well worth considering
Ebooks, together with the latest print-on-demand options, permit writers with their wits about them to publish books, printed and or digital, at minimum cost, and market them worldwide using Amazon and similar online retailers. A chapter describes this exciting new route for aspiring writers. It is now a marketplace that no new writer should overlook. Sales of digital books are expected to take an even larger majority share in 2014 over their printed cousins.

- get started - many people talk a good book. This shows you how to complete one
- have a clear understanding of your likely market
- set a budget for editorial and technical assistance
- self-edit relentlessly so that your natural prose style shines through
- prepare your draft so that publishers take note when you submit your work
- spot vanity publishers and dishonest agents - the people to avoid at all cost
- find technical assistance, at trade prices, if you decide to self-publish
At last a book about writing that's funny, informative and makes you realise all is possible in the writing game. Jonathan's books are dedicated to the brewers of South Wales, restaurateurs of Catalunya, racehorses of Tipperary (the fast ones) and the red, white and sparkling wines of the Languedoc Roussillon. Jonathan Veale knows too much about the above, to his delight and cost. In an earlier life he spent years in marketing, specialising in advertising and management communication.(where great literature seldom flourishes) With a second home in a medieval village near Castelnaudary, between Toulouse and Carcassonne, and a website, www.WriteAway.co.uk where he helps aspiring writers chase their dreams of infamy and wealth, his take on life nowadays is reflected in numerous blogs and articles about writing and publishing.

Introduction
This book is aimed at me - as a much younger person. You've heard the phrase, 'if only I knew then what I know now'. Well read this and I'll share with you what I now know. It should help you achieve your ambition: to join the ranks of published authors. I made it. So can you.
I have kept my treatment of writing and publishing non-technical, and though occasionally I ride off on a favourite hobby horse or two, the book will take you on a journey through the publishing process from beginning to end - when your book should be published and available for others to read.
However, the occasional gem may be hidden away nearer the end than the beginning so it would be prudent to read the whole book through once before using it as a work of reference as you pursue your writing ambitions.
And the very best of luck.

Getting started
Always tricky – getting started on a new book. Here’s how I suggest you go about it. The moment you know what you want to write about, and have a clear idea who might find your subject-matter interesting, hit the keyboard and let rip. This will ensure you don’t spend weeks, months or even decades nursing an ambition that’s more fun to toy with than achieve. There are, however, a few essential things to identify before a word is written. These, however, need not delay you more than a day or two at most and are dealt with below.
As a seasoned book editor I field enquiries from aspiring writers who, unless discouraged, like nothing better than to discuss, at enormous length, just how splendid their book will be . . . because they’ve given the topic so much thought over the years; they have fallen in love with the idea of writing a book but are scared to hit a single key in anger. Get stuck in, I say. You may get lost a few times, but who will know? And sooner than you can possibly imagine
