Hello again.I've added Drifta's Quest 2 on this site. Unlikely to be a Drifta's Quest 3 but never say never. I am already working on a new book to fit in between other creative projects. As a mere lad of 68 I have a good few years to tell my stories so I hope people will keep enjoying them.

    One Way To Mars 2

    Chapter 1

'Okay. Give me a big cheesy smile.'

    'Oooh!'

'Oh, come on, Pal. That won't impress the ladies. Put a little pazzaz into it.'

    'Ooooh Eeeeeh! Oooh!'

'Better. Now. Show them how clever you are. Ladies are always attracted to good looking guys who are also smart. And seeing as I struck out on both counts, it explains my total lack of success with women.'

    'Eeeh! Eeeh!'

'Yeah, hilarious. And before you say anything, Susan doesn't count.'

Andrew Foreman, tried not to think about Susan Redcliff. He knew she was serving hard labour on Earth's moon for a ten year stretch with the rest of her gang. It had been three months since her arrest on Mars and in the small hours of the Martian night, he thought he could still smell her hair as if she was lying next to him in his bed. If things had only been different...Foreman blocked her out of his mind. There was a job to do.

'Monkley. I want you to pollinate these two apple trees.'

    'Oooma, Andy. Monkley done.'

'I know, pal. I know you've already done it. But I want to record you doing it. Pollinating things is a big part of your job.'

    'Peanuts.'

'Hey. I don't want to discus your hourly rate, okay? We need to send recordings of all the important, cool things you do around here. All those domestic chores, helping in the jungle, that sort of thing. You want a girlfriend, don't you?'

    'Ooooooh!'

'So cooperate. Get going with that damn brush.'

    'Story Andy.'

'Not right now. You need to do this first.'

    'Story Andy.'

'No. Just do a few minutes work and I'll tell you a story. Now, get to it.'

Monkley climbed the nearest apple tree and used the brush like a pro, delicately going to the pinky white blossom. Foreman recorded the little GenMoP, genetically modified primate, as he worked. Transmission to Earth would be almost perfect in less then two hours. He wanted as much recording done of how Monkley had adapted to the Base and Martian environment as he could get.

'Okay, pal. Time to clock out for the day. Come on down here.'

    Monkley climbed down. 'Andy Story.'

'I'll tell you a story. But we have to get things just right. Beer and juice in the pool.'

Monkley scurried away to get the drinks and Foreman set the recorder down safely. Then he removed the regulation one piece suit and eased himself into the clear water of the small pool. He preferred to sit by the circulation inlet, where the continuously flowing water churned the pool like a jacuzzi. He had hardly settled, when Monkley returned with a cold beer for him and a juice for himself. He placed them on the side of the pool and slipped into the water. His favourite place was right next to Foreman.

'Thanks, pal. Well, this is nice, cheers.'

They clinked beakers together. 'Cheers,' said Monkley.

'Right. Story. Once upon a time...'

    'Ah!'

'There was a really cool dude called Monkley.'

    'Monkley. Cooool.'

'Sure is. And he lived with his friend, Andy.'

    'Andy, Andy.'

    'And they were very happy.'

    'Happy.'

'Then. One day, a man came on the radio. A very important man.'

    'Man.'

'And he said, hey, you guys. How are you two doing down there?' He sipped his beer. 'Not a bad batch, though I say so myself. Anyway. This man, this very important man...'

    'Oooh.'

'He says, I got some news for you two. We have a very special lady-friend for Monkely. Now. I want you to note, pal, they couldn't care less about my love life, or lack of one. But Monkely can have a lady friend, shipped all the way from Earth. I'm not really a jealous chap, as you well know, but when a GenMop gets preferential treatment over me, well, you just have to wonder, yeah?'

    'Ahh!'

'Don't you go feeling sorry for me, pal. Well, maybe a little. Anyway. All the way out there in space, is a cute little GemMoP, all excited because she's going to meet this cool dude Monkley, and she's really hoping they'll
