Lady Antiva

I am Lady Antiva, the new Makidon Guildmaster, recently promoted from being a Senior High Guildman (a too masculine term in my view). I live in Camelot city, and play a crucial role in chronicling various lore of Bretunia. Hence, I have been bestowed the honor as being the co-author of 'The Book of Lore', deputy to Porthios, the Loremaster. I am entrusted with the Guild Fellowship Staff, a tall slender rod of gold metal, encrusted with complex runes, impeccably carved, some small enough to cover with a finger yet more complex than a spider's web. The top of the Staff is curled into a fanciful hook, a symbol of unity and brotherhood.. I welcome you to write to me at ladyantiva@gmail.com and I will happy share with you my notes, drawings, sketches and previews!

    Greetings Adventurer!

I would like to introduce you to Lady Antiva, the new Makidon Guildmaster, who is the co-author of this manuscript. Lady Antiva has spared no effort researching into the Lore of Camelot and of Bretunia to aid me in putting this volume together. I have her to thank for assembling the Tactics used in the Torpann Camp, where Master Skeentip has been keeping watch on the trainee Tacticians.

You can identify Lady Antiva from afar. She is entrusted with the Guild Fellowship Staff, a tall slender rod of gold metal, encrusted with complex runes, impeccably carved, some small enough to cover with a finger yet more complex than a spider’s web. The top of the Staff is curled into a fanciful hook, a symbol of unity and brotherhood. Write to her at ladyantiva@gmail.com and I am sure she will be happy to share her travel notes, drawings, sketches and previews with you!

    Introduction

Betunia lies asunder, torn apart by a divisive war leaving it shattered into two separate kingdoms, Urielen-Bretunia and Morgalen-Bretunia. The exhausted forces on both sides have a tense treaty of peace, allowing the two kingdoms to begin the long hard process of rebuilding. Yet not all is well, for to the frozen north, armies gather under the dark banner of Na-Sheol, son of the Dark Lord Sheol himself. Aimed at the destruction first of the Bretunian kingdoms, before the rest of the world, these armies are poised to return war to Bretunia.

Meanwhile across the seas, other empires and kingdoms face problems of their own, the powerful lich Thorager threatens the ancient Empire of Macherras, the warring Doren states of Vond, Durn, Hecelas and Tallas continue their ancient feud. Emerging from a century’s long isolation, the Empire of Ivrantor faces suspicion and even fear and it seems set to respond in kind. Throughout the world, creatures once thought to be legend arise to their ancient roles, either to harm or aid the humans that are now so dominant. In graves long forgotten, the dead lie restless, awaiting the call that will bring them forth to exact their vengeance against the living.

These are dark times, a new age of mistrust and conflict, a time that will bring forth either unending death and destruction or yet another tentative peace. It is a time in need of men and women to stand firm and ready, ready to change the world by their actions and deeds.

Welcome to the world of Glyph, home of the game to Tactics Anthem (RPG Edition). This game is one of role-playing where you, the player, take the roles of heroes or even villains that may well take the reins of fate and attempt to change the path of the world’s destiny. In this game you can play brave knights, powerful wielders of magic or many of the different professions that are available.

As can be seen by the passages above, you will be playing in a world which is uncertain of its own fate; will there be war or peace? And what about the forces which cannot be reasoned with? It is also common knowledge that the extents of the world have not been fully explored. Are there lands of wealth and mystery beyond the known lands? All these and more can be encountered and their results determined by you. For those who are still in dark about the terms used in this game and maybe know nothing about Role-Playing Games, the next few pages will familiarize you with the terms and kind of game you hold in your hands.

    What’s a Role-Playing Game?

Role-Playing Games or RPGs are games in which you assume the role of a character; this character is not only represented by a handful of numbers called Stats as well as a personality and background that you decide on. You may also have a model to represent your character in the game. All these are central to a RPG and will be explained in greater detail later in the book.

In many ways, Role-Playing is like acting, you pretend that you are the character and decide the actions that he or she will take. Unlike acting there is no script, you write the script as you go along the game. The Quest Lord (who is the chairperson of the game) sets the games setting and mood as well as the adventure and situation that your characters are in. In return, you decide how your character will react and how well he or she does so. To help you in this task, are the rules that make this a game and not some of play acting that you might do as a child, these rules help determine if your character can hit that dragon, leap across 30 foot chasms and more. In many ways they are important to how the game runs.

Besides fighting monsters and other creatures, your character will also have to solve puzzles, escape from traps and deal with Non-Player Characters (also known as NPC) controlled by the Quest Lord. These can be either simple traps, or mind boggling ones that will kill your characters should they fail to escape them. Or it could be your character trying to bargain with a store-keeper in a town to get a lower price for those muffins.

With almost no restriction at all, the only thing that limits what your character is capable of doing is logic and
