Hello again.I've added Drifta's Quest 2 on this site. Unlikely to be a Drifta's Quest 3 but never say never. I am already working on a new book to fit in between other creative projects. As a mere lad of 68 I have a good few years to tell my stories so I hope people will keep enjoying them.

    Chapter 1

Two months from Mars to Earth's Moon was a vast improvement from the early days, but even that seemed like an eternity to Andrew Foreman. The Starflash was a massive ship, but after awhile, even that seemed like a sardine can. His emotions were all over the place. After a whirlwind romance that had been more whirlwind than romance, he had fallen in love. Just to complicate things in his own unintentional way, he had fallen for his boss, Dr. Karranda Rearden. Fortunately, this had been reciprocated. But as nothing in his life seemed to be straight forward, it had been decided she was to stay on Mars for a year with the GenMoP project, and he was to return to Earth. Nice one, Foreman.

Then, there was the emotional wrench from his old pal, Monkley, the male GenMoP with whom he had crashed on Mars after their ship had been sabotaged, killing his three colleagues, and having survived the crash, would have died in the Martian red dust, had not Monkley almost died trying to save his life. Then, he had his life saved again by the hairy guy, when a pineapple was dropped onto Mitchum's head, seconds before that villain would have shot Foreman. Yep. Hard not to forge a strong bond with a true pal when things like that happens.

Then, just to tug at his scrambled emotions some more, he knew Susan Redcliffe, the sexy member of the gang who had caused the ship to crash, was serving time doing hard labour with the others, on the Moon. It had been easier to put Redcliffe out of his mind while he was sharing a bed with Rearden, but that was on Mars. Now he was millions of miles away from the woman he loved, to land just a few miles from Redcliffe. At least with just a two day transitional stay on the Moon before catching the regular shuttle flight to the International Space Federation Base on Earth, meant he could leave Redcliffe and hopefully the memory behind. For anyone other than Foreman, that was probably entirely possible...

    'Anything to declare, sir?'

Foreman went for a full on charm offensive that fell flatter than a well ironed pancake. The security officer wasn't pretty, so that should have helped. I mean, plain women responded to a bit of flattery no matter how insincere, didn't they? he thought.

    'Only my undying love.'

The well padded example of unsmiling officialdom was not amused. 'I could slap an import tax on that. Sign here.'

    'My pleasure.'

    'And here.'

    'No problem.'

    'And here, here, here and..'

    'Don't tell me. Here.'

'Well done. Sir. I'm sure the ability to read is a huge advantage to you. Through that door and along the tube. Next!'

Foreman sighed and did as he was told. The assembly crew had been given first priority, and Mike Wilkes was obliged to ride on an electric stretcher, despite his protestations that he was perfectly recovered from his fall from the scissor lift during the construction of the Mars Base extension. It was all to do with the insurance, apparently. Until he was declared fit by a neurologist, he was to wear the neck-brace and do as he was told.

Captain Jorrelle Carpenter and Lieutenant Saffron Storme had ship shut-down procedures to follow, so They would be the last off. Foreman threw his personal belongings onto the electric trolley, trying to keep his facial expressions and heart-rate within normal parameters, relieved beyond words that the priceless slab of marilium secreted in his unwashed underwear had so far stayed undetected. There were clothes washing facilities on the Starflash, but Foreman's unique brand of logic determined no self respecting security officer would venture anywhere near his soiled undies. So far so good.

He realised that he had become something of a minor celebrity and he was going to trade heavily on that, hoping to deflect attention away from his carry-on luggage. Of
