About this ebook

Lucy is haunted by the death of her partner, Jake, and lives in paranoid fear and reclusion. She lives in a small, introverted village in Cornwall called Pennance, and is surrounded by Jake's family and memories of him. She feels intensely guilty about his death and thinks someone is out to get her in retribution. Relief appears to come when a new neighbour, Karen, enters her life, but is that when the real threat begins?

Reviews:

"The book reads simultaneously like a tightly wound mystery and like a very modern gothic romance" - T.T. Thomas

"pulls the reader straight into the main character's break with reality and keeps you there throughout the entire reading of the book" - Karyn R. Pierce

"The way Clare Ashton has told this story is breath taking." - Terry Baker

An excellent novel that allows the reader to eavesdrop on a woman’s melancholic musings following a tragic accident. Musings laced with guilt, fear, loneliness, and ultimately hope. The moodiness conveyed by the author reminds me of an Ingmar Bergman film.

This book is beautiful. 100% worth the read. I do wish that there was more but I was very satisfied with the ending. It left a smile on my face. Read it, I don’t give high praise easily.

I really enjoyed this book and even though it was sad at quite a few places, it ended with hope. It was an "i-don't-want-to-put-it-down" kind of book and a nice length. I really like how Clare writes and miss the characters when I've finished. If you like this , I also really liked her book "The Goodmans" :)

I love this story so much that I read it a second time. My only criticism is that it ended there. I wanted more. Though the ending fills you with hope, I still felt it was open-ended. Otherwise, great story. Thanks!!!
