About this ebook

In 20XX, a war broke out within the shadows of modern society, where a world of magic and mystical creatures existed. The magic using magi broke into two major factions—The Translaticius faction, who followed the traditional path of magic, and the Averius faction, who crossed magic with technology to create a new system, leading to an unknown path. What started as a difference of belief spiraled into a war that held no mercy or compassion.

Having served for only one campaign, it broke a man to his core to see all the destruction and he withdrew, taking a position monitoring a city for two years. Things settled for him, until he’s assigned to take a new transfer and investigates a missing person’s case that brings the battle to him once again.

This is a short story.

    Prologue

The humid, dense fog and eerie quiet made tonight seem like a scene out of a horror story.

It would be right around this time that you’d expect something to go bump in the night—like a trash can being rattled and overturned, revealing a black cat that had been playing around. Then, when you turn around, a figure in a hat and trench coat would suddenly appear and snap off some line, before it tried to wring the life out of you.

Your feet would thrash as you were lifted off the ground. Unable to move or escape, desperation would kick in. Yet, it would be unable to prevent you from blacking out. The darkness would consume you.

Now, imagine my surprise when that very scene was being played out in the distance. Some woman had the unfortunate luck to be wandering around at night—apparently she ignored the rumors that women had been vanishing for the last few days—when a Ghoul began to hunt her down.

It started off by making the street lamps
