My family and I live in Arkansas where we are owned by two cats with masters in relaxation (Dogs have Masters, cats have Staff-LOL) and a tiny Chihuahua who thinks she's a watchdog and has a long list of stuff to bark at. My current Work in Progress is another cozy mystery in the Maryvale series. I love meeting new reading and writing friends so please visit my page and blog and leave a comment. Happy reading, Jackie

    WONDER MOM

Sally paused, her hands in sudsy dishwater. You want me to do what? She called to her husband in the other room.

Don raised his voice a little. I said I think we can hold off replacing that back door if you can find time to fix the top of it.

    There was no immediate answer.

Eyes still on the TV picture Don continued watching, writing checks for household bills, and calling to his wife in the kitchen. "There’s some screening left out in the shed from when we screened that little side porch.

Sally bit back a smart answer at the use of ‘we’ about the porch. She had done most of the work on that project.

Oh, he added. And you’re going to have to call and see what’s going on with the gas company, too. Their bill is way too high. I’m writing checks and it looks like a lot more than last month. There could be a leak somewhere. That’s dangerous.

Okay, Sally let out a deep sigh which he didn’t hear. She decided she’d better check the alarm too while she was at it. She grumbled without much hope but called back, I’ll see what I can do.

Don finished writing checks. Isn’t it time for you to pick up Chip?

Johnny’s mom is going to drop him off on the way to get his big sister, Clare, at the library. That’s along with a couple of other errands she has to do—all about the same time, it seems.

Sally dried her hands and looked in at Don. Her transportation service is open even longer than mine.

Don laughed. She must be trying to challenge your old role model, Wonder Woman.

Sally smiled to herself, picturing Wonder Woman holding up her magic bracelets to deflect bad guy bullets without getting even one beautiful hair out of place. Sally brushed a curl out of her eyes and reached for the switch to turn off the light over the kitchen sink.
