    INTRODUCTION

My inspiration for consolidating this information for you, is that I’ve been giving out advice and tips on many topics for most of my life. For some reason, friends, colleagues, and not so close friends listen to what I have to say. In fact, when I was younger, my father nicknamed me, Ms. Know It All. Now that would make you think I like to talk and I’m some sort of a social butterfly. Actually, I’m quite the opposite. I don’t like attention; I have a small, very close, tight circle of friends; and do not hang out socially very much at all. I enjoy research: I’m a fact finder! But I guess there’s some truth to the saying, watch out for the quiet ones, because when I have something to say, it’s usually valid and people want to listen. Anyway, from relationships, dating, and shopping tips, to travel or interviewing skills, I relish the opportunity to help other people.

Even though I have a college degree, I don’t have a doctorate or even an MBA. But I have lived long enough to be able to offer advice based on life experiences. And yet have people confide in me. The keyword here is confide: the ability to trust. I used to put a lot of faith into searching the internet, so that when I was ready to make a purchase, I would ultimately receive exactly what I wanted. I mean, after all, I spent at least an hour searching for the product. I would say that 90% of the time this is true for material things: you get what you want. However, when you are trying to learn and achieve a goal, and doing research to gather information, the results can be more arbitrary. I am hoping that when you look through the pages of this ebook you are confident that this is what you are looking for and need: one point of reference to find companies that are offering legitimate work from home opportunities!

Let’s face it: if you’ve downloaded this ebook, you are frustrated from searching on the internet for real companies that offer real work. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve clicked and clicked through links online on what I think will be a legitimate company offering a work from home opportunity, only to find a broken link, or a company that is going to pay you a nominal fee to participate in online surveys! Maybe you have downloaded this ebook because you have lost your job, and are now searching for an alternative to the traditional office setting: a work from home job might be the perfect solution.

Lastly, I have finally taken the time to complete my very first ebook about companies offering work online, because it will save you time and provide you with one source for where to look for companies that offer legitimate work from home opportunities. Another key word here is legitimate. Companies have been contacted and validated to ensure that they do, in fact, offer you the opportunity to work and get paid from the comfort of your home.

I want you to relish the content. By that, I mean I want you to be relieved – let out an AHH!, a sigh of relief – because this is what you have been looking for for a long time. No more endless searching, no more invalid opportunities, no more phony job offers, and no more wasting your time or money, because now you can be working from home for a legitimate company in the next few hours!

    To Your Success,

    Work from Home

It’s important to realize that if you choose to work from home, you must consider this as even more of a commitment than if you worked at an office every day. The reason is because you are working in your personal environment: your company is trusting that you will maintain your professionalism despite the personal home influences that may distract you while you are working. The company you choose to work for doesn’t want to get feedback from its clients that they heard dogs barking in the background, or children crying while they were trying to place an order. An office or dedicated space must be structured for you to work from home without any interruptions (more about that later). Also, keep this in mind: a mystery shopper from the company that hired you might give you a call to ensure that you are performing your job the way that you were trained.

Working from home is an investment: It’s an investment in yourself. You have to be disciplined, committed to the schedule you select, and professional as you work with clients during those hours. As you access what company(ies) you would like to work for from this ebook, it’s important to identify the role or position you accept. You may choose to opt for a company where your ‘role’ is as an employee, where you know you will earn a guaranteed hourly pay and may be entitled to benefits. If you accept a role as contractor or freelancer, it may mean that you only get paid for your time on the phone or per completed project and most likely you are acting as an independent contractor-you are the small business owner.

Also, don't get hooked into paying money to become an official mystery shopper, assuming you'll start working right away. After taking training certifications for each mystery shop assignment, it’s possible there may not be available shops in your area.. A mystery shop assignment should give you the chance to work based on your profile, interests and background. One helpful resource in learning more about the mystery shopping industry is Mysteryshop.org.

You should never have to pay upfront fees (at least not from any of the companies listed in this book); however, you may have to spend money to make your office space suitable to meet the requirements of your future employer. In today's fast-paced world, a dial up modem is inadequate for work-at-home jobs.

As with any advertised opportunity, you should do your homework to determine if the job is a good fit for you. That means talking to a live person and not relying on an e-mail exchange to learn in-depth information about requirements, training and what you will be paid. Don't be fooled by listings that promise huge sums of money for little effort. If it were that easy, we'd all be working in those jobs.

A couple of important notes: my ebook indicates whether or not a company is affiliated with the BBB (Better Business Bureau). A company that is not accredited by the BBB does not necessarily mean that it is not a good company. There are a lot of companies that tend not to use the BBB as much as they did in the past, because it has become more of a membership service rather than a community business organization. The BBB charges these companies and many of them have decided not to entertain their fees. This is why you may see that many of the companies listed are not accredited by the BBB. All of the companies in this ebook were checked on the BBB website. If you note that they do not have a BBB rating, they are still legitimate companies and you can feel safe in applying for jobs they offer.

Also, don’t be alarmed if in some of the columns you see unknown-that simply means the information was not available after thorough research in trying to find out-the company is legitimate!

Finally, there are great freelance sites that match skill sets to people that would like to use you to get their project(s) completed. If you have strong technical, writing, translation,-most every skill set you can imagine-you can make yourself available globally to thousands of open projects. You would be very surprised by the types of work people need to get done. I have employed people on elance.com (my favorite), vworker.com and guru.com for many projects. These sites will take a percentage of your completed work-but if you gain a strong client base (based on feedback from people who selected you), you can gain steady work. As a freelancer, you are not an employee, but work as an independent contractor.

    Work From Home - Guidelines

Keep in mind a few basic rules before beginning any work at home job:

Develop a schedule and stick with it.You are independent: there's no one looking at a clock to see if you arrive at work on time. You are in charge of your work schedule, therefore you are responsible for setting your hours and then staying with your plan. Make sure you set up a work schedule that is practical and manageable, and that includes breaks for things like lunch, stretching, etc.

Design your own work space. You need a quiet and private working environment: trying to work in a highly used area, like your family room or kitchen, will not be conducive to productivity. Your work space should also be a place where you want to spend time: it should be comfortable, warm, and inviting. It's also important to keep your space neat, because clutter can lead to disorganization and sloppy job performance.

Setting goals. Before you begin your work at home job, think about your goals and what you need to do in order to achieve them. There is no such thing as overnight success: everyone wants to reach their
