    Hi! I'm Jen...and I love the Lord and how He speaks! I have been writing for a really, really long time, and my dad always joked with me, "Are you writing a book?" Little did I know that would become a fulfilled prophecy! I've got a baby girl, a husband, two kitties, and a passion for writing! I write what God tells me and I love to share what He has taught me. I'm not much for devotionals or Bible study books. I'm mostly a nonfiction reader, but I do love Karen Kingsbury's books! I have a bad habit sometimes of looking everywhere online for answers before I finally ask God what He has to say! (Who can relate!?) Oopsies! :) Also, I've got a little organic-ness to me. I love organic fruits and vegetables, but what I really mean is I want "organic Christianity." I prefer house churches to building churches. I also would love to live in community and share a house with another family! God also has some plans for our family to be missionaries and possibly adoptive parents. There's so much to look forward to! This is the day that the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it! God bless you!

      Introduction:

      Hi! Because you have picked up this book today, I can safely assume that in one way or another, you are interested in spiritual gifts from God the Holy Spirit.

      Generally speaking, I can also assume that you have one of these opinions:

      You believe spiritual gifts and miracles no longer exist today

      you believe spiritual gifts and miracles never existed

      You don’t know much about spiritual gifts, but you would like to hear more about them

      OR

      You are a big fan of spiritual gifts and you’re just interested in what I have to say.

      If you can identify with one of the first three options, you are in good company! I was once where you are now. It was a matter of months and a big change of heart that brought me into the fourth group—but let me stop there for now!

      Here’s a bit more about me: the author. You obviously know my name (if you don’t, just look at the cover!), and that I am a follower of Jesus Christ. I grew up in Buffalo NY, with three younger brothers and both of my parents. I generally heard very little about the spiritual gifts that God gives His children, so I mostly avoided the topic. But there came a cold November day during college, when God brought it to my attention. I came face-to-face with God’s supernatural power & gifts. My first reactions were of fear and disbelief. Here are a few pages from my prayer journal that I wrote as I studied the book of Acts to discover what all the hype was about!

      Wow!

      You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses in Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth (Acts 1:8—RSV, Christ’s words)

      "sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of a fire, distributed and resting on each one of them.

      And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." (Acts 2:2-4 RSV)

      …at this sound the multitude came together, and they were BEWILDERED because each one heard them speaking in his own language and they were AMAZED and WONDERED (asking how that could be)!(Acts 2:6-7 RSV)

      And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another: ‘What does this MEAN?!’ But others mocking said, ‘They are filled w/new wine.’ (Acts 2:12-13 RSV)

      I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy…I will pour out my spirit and they shall prophesy. (Acts 2:17, 18 RSV)

      Now when they heard this (the Gospel) they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the apostles, ‘Brethren, what shall we do?’ And Peter said to them, Repent, and BE BAPTIZED every one of You in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:37-38 RSV)

      And FEAR came upon every soul; and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.(Acts 2:43 RSV)

      I’m not the only one who fears!!

      And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the Word of God with BOLDNESS. (Acts 4:31 RSV)
