      SPLAT! Patrick Noel looked at the disgusting blob of red goop in front of him. How was he supposed to eat this? He wasn’t ready. No human being would voluntarily eat this, so why should he have to. Leaning in to sniff it, he turned his head away and just barely kept down his breakfast. No way, Patrick thought. He may be a monster, but this was too much. Glancing at Johnson, a fake prison guard, real vampire hunter, and Patrick’s trainer in harnessing his vampire powers, Patrick shook his head no. Johnson glared back at the reluctant vampire and shook his head yes. Rolling his eyes, Patrick groaned. Keep up appearances, Patrick told himself as he picked up his fork and dug into the mystery meat that the Cook Penitentiary lunch staff had plopped on his tray.

      Chapter 2

      The door opened, and Colby was relieved to see a familiar face. His boss at the hospital, but more importanty, his mentor and teacher in the M.U.R.S.E world, Alan Victor. He looked concerned. The old nurse looked around the room at all the damage and destruction, then at the dead skinwalker, then at Colby. He shook his head.

      What the hell happened here, Colby? Colby thought it was pretty obvious.

      "It’s pretty obvious, isn’t it? This skinwalker tried to bust my chops so I said Hey, step off mofo. Then he threw down, so then I threw down, and I showed him who his daddy was. Colby raised his hand in high five fashion as he nodded his head. Representin’, M.U.R.S.E style, baby! Up top Mr. Victor!" Alan shook his head again.
