Ready Reference Treatise: A Border Passage

About this ebook
But, in the recent years it has been noticed that a very large majority of the students, without reading the original texts, rely on the guide books or notes prepared by their teachers or others. This is definitely not a healthy habit because students do pass their exams with the help of such notes; they miss so many things which haunt them in their later lives.
I would strongly advise all students to read the original text once again even if you have already read it, after reading this short treatise. You will see that the same story, after reading this treatise, will begin to give many new meanings to you.
All the best.

Chapter One: About Leila Ahmed
Leila Ahmed was born in 1940, in the Heliopolis district of Cairo. She; is an Egyptian American writer on Islam and Islamic feminism as well as being the first women's studies professor at Harvard Divinity School.
Her father belonged to a middle-class Egyptian family and her mother was from an upper class Turkish background. Leila’s childhood experiences were guided by two aspects of the contemporary society: Muslim Egyptian values and the liberal orientation of the aristocracy, under the ancient regime.
In1952 when the last of the monarchs was overthrown by the Free Officers Movement, the lives of the most of the people in high society changed in Egypt. Leila’s family and the others in her milieu experienced irrevocable changes in their lives.
Leila’s father was a civil engineer; he had strongly opposed the construction of the Aswan High Dam ordered by Gamal Abdel Nasser. He believed that the dam was going to cause a lot of ecological damage and he was not ready to go against his principles. On account of his firm principals and his opposition to the construction of the dam, the ruling regime was displeased with him and he had to bear the wrath of the regime. His stand on the dam caused adverse effects on his family.
Leila Ahmed received her doctorate degree from the University of Cambridge. After that she decided to go to the United States. She moved to the US to teach and write. Leila Ahmed was appointed to professorship in Women’s Studies and Near Eastern studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1981 followed by a professorship in Women's Studies and Religion at the Harvard Divinity School in 1999. She is still on her job at the
